Ok after much crawling around on the floor, I have removed all the bolts between body and floorpan on my karmann ghia. None broke off which was good, I'll just need to run a tap through them to clean up the threads on a few.

More questions;

1. do you need to 'crack' the joint between pan/seal/body, or when you lift the body is the weight of the pan sufficient for them to separate. They've been together since October 1962!

2. are there any particular places to support the body? (or not to?) I was just going to use some timber on saw-horses, with the timber running across the body.

The body will just lift off the pan with no real dramas. If it is a cabrio, keep the doors shut until it is supported on something. Saw horses with a good solid timber beam would be enough to support it.

I actually welded up a frame that would allow me to bolt straight in to the body from underneath it. It was wider than the car and on wheels. That way, I could move it around the garage and roll it over the top of the floor pan so it only took up one car space in the garage when not being worked on.

It is a coupe so no problems with body support.

You don't happen to still have the frame lying around do you?
