Hi All, just wanted some input from people who have been down this road before to hear about lessons learned. I have a 69 Fastback and currently have the engine out for a reco and want to know what people have done exhaust wise. I currently have the standard setup but it's getting thin & rusty and was keen to see if people change systems & not reuse the heater/heat exchangers as the ones I have may require a fair bit of work to get back in good condition. Although I do live in a cold part of Victoria, this is Sunday driver and have owned many cars without heaters so that side is of no concern, I'm more interested if it's a hard or bad thing to do and hear people's experiences. Any comments would be most appreciated, I did try a search but have an issue with page expiring so quickly glanced through 26 pages but didn't hit real gold! The car is also low so advice on a sytem that tucks up nice would be great.
buy a nice set of stainless extractors, take them to an exhaust shop and make your own system rather then buy one. having said that i have had two madefor type 3. always in 2' and always with two straight through hi flow mufflers.the last one was an ott exhaust which i cut a section into and run towards the front of the car placing a muffler next to the gearbox then returned them back into the original muffler at the back of the car. ground clearance not an issue. get as much pipe in as you can and get the two mufflers in as it start to sounds porsche like without the ear deafening roar , just my opinion.

have heard not sure if this muffler but check the insides are stainless
some rust out inside and blow their insides out would be asking questions
before committing hard earned
these systems are very good but the sound is bloody terrible. The muffler has very little if any packing and suffers badly for it, remedy is simple they cut the ends off the muffler and repack muffler. Count on another 150 on top of original cost to remedy.
i think i would avoid the style shown in the picture above. if that muffler is above the header flange i would think it would be too close to the air intake bellows. i reckon that system would overheat the engine. and ive heard that stainless isnt really the best material due to fatigue cracking. maybe steel would be better. i used to have a thunderbird quiet setup and it worked well. the original mufflers are nice too but i dont think they are available anymore
Save your pennies and buy yourself a CSP system!

I bought the cermainc coated over the top exhaust system(Tri mil) from ISP West in USA. At the time they were USD$225 and since it could ship by
regular post it cost about AUD$450 including delivey to Perth. I think they are now USD$250.
As long as it ships through regular post the price is right, it works, looks and sounds great.
