Ghia Mirrors
ashbaxter - July 29th, 2011 at 01:28 PM

Looking for some help with the mirror location.

I have a pair of the fender mount mirrors but there I need to drill the holes.

Can anyone post a close up photo and maybe some measurements.

Thanks

What year is your Ghia?
Mine's a MY '64 & the mirrors are mounted near the A piller
Is this what you're looking for?

Yes that's it.
Are you in Newcastle? If so any chance I could have a look at your car as I'm starting to put mine together and it would be great to see a complete one and get some photos as I live in Newcastle

I have done a little research on where the mirrors should be mounted
I was surprised that my 4 inch thick 1961 to 1965 workshop manual does not indicate where the mirrors are mounted
Below I have pasted in a scanned image from a 1964 brochure & a picture from my MY64 Ghia, which seem to match up
It also corresponds with old pictures in VW Karmann Ghia Gold Portfolio 1955 to 1974
On Samba there is a guide (no reference given) for the mounting position, which seems a little bit lower than the above, but I haven't checked the measurements against my car

I've just checked my '63 model. Using the symbols in the above sketch, a=45, b=110, c=34 and d=35 - so basically matches up except for the b dimension.

No idea if it is 'correct' or not, it is a very original car in general.

From memory the swan neck mirror was an optional extra. So the mounting points will vary slightly between vehicles.

The dimensions match my car (60 model). The 'b' dimension is important , any further rearwards and you will have difficulty gaining access. You will need to remove the panel inside the guard.
