torana - August 21st, 2011 at 10:03 AM

Hi guys
have a type 3 fastback with a very rusty floor.
Are all the floors the same in these?
Also if anyone has one in SA available let me know please.

Cheers

No,
Early and late are different, the big change was they went from swing axle to IRS ~'69, in later ones seat mounts etc changed over the years, wagons had stiffer torsion bars etc.
I don't know intricate details, but there were subtle changes. You could swap bodies OK on later ones though.
I don't know much about early ones.

What year do you have?

I think it's only in the seat bases, as the rear sub frame is interchangeable and it supports all the suspension differences.

pic looks like an early model fastback

would have 5 stud wheels and drum brakes

and swing rear axles later ones had irs rear suspension

chassis may be interchangeable?

thanks for the replies guys :)
yeah i think it is a 66-67, slopey bonnet.
the car in my avatar isnt my real car, i wish...lol

are rust replacement floor pans/parts available?

a station wagons rear seat mounts are different to the fasty and notch, i think (not 100% sure) the notch and fasty rear seat mounts are the same. the wagon differs cos the seat base is hinged and that bits welded to the pan.

yeah all type 3 chassis are all the same excepts auto vs manual there is a some differences in the shifter mounting plate holes I think and some other shifter related stuff?

and pre 72 vs post 72 had difference seat rails. Apart from that they are the same.

SA and IRS the sub frame was different but its not part of the chassis as it is a removable separate unit. oh and as vwjon pointed out maybe the rear seat mount, not sure either.

Easiest is Gerson's pan halfs as mention above :D

Also heater controls on the tunnel differ. Early to 63 = turn knob, 64 up to 68??? = two horizontal swing levers and later have the two pull up levers. Not sure if the 73 was different again.
