Bumpers
acemarc - September 25th, 2011 at 08:07 PM

Is it possible to get reproduction bumpers for a 73 fastback?

vlad01 - September 25th, 2011 at 08:55 PM

mmm? no. it might be posible to fit these though.

http://www.groupharrington.com/en/part/171/vw-karmann-ghia-1972-1974-bumpers....

expensive as hell and the front isn't 100% the same as the late type 3 but very close and should fit. I was thinking about buying these but since then I have bought one NOS rear bumper and a friend of mine has a very nice front bumper for me which I will get a pro to restore it to mint condition once again.

but the harrington bumpers are 304 stainless and will never rust :starhit:

There is/was a guy in the Philipines I think that had a whole bunch of NOS late bumpers. Very reasonable price inc freight too. He has a whole load of stuff from an old dealership or supplier.

I think this is the place http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zD0JCXtOetw

Cool to see so much new (NOS) stuff.

i was thinking the same, be nice to know

I watched a few of the you tube clips and in the comments below one of them, someone said the parts had been moved to Hong Kong. I also wonder how much they still have and what is there.

I sent a message to him through youtube yesterday but no reply as yet.

He did have ads on the Samba and may still have?

I did have past email contact but have lost that now.

This place in Germany has them. I don't know if they are OG type or stainless steel. Also a bit of other interesting stuff.

You're absolutely right, I found the email on my old laptop.

There was no price for the bumper but freight was only USD$92 to Australia.

Edit- I got a reply from Joanna already with a list of type 3 parts available. She has 26 NOS rear bumpers for late cars @ USD$107 each so you could land a perfect original bumper in Aus for about $210.

vlad01 - September 30th, 2011 at 08:47 PM

yep thats what I did plus a whole stack of other stuff.

jedsgpz - September 30th, 2011 at 09:55 PM

So guys, what's her e-mail address???

vlad01 - September 30th, 2011 at 10:28 PM

PM sent

jedsgpz - October 1st, 2011 at 09:38 AM

Thanks for the e-mail Vlad

Sunset Garage - October 3rd, 2011 at 08:17 PM

Hey I'd love a pm with the contact details too if you could send something vlad? I'm currently trying to track down lots of nos stuff for a 69 square, and it's bloody hard to find anything here anymore.

Thanks in advance, Dave

vlad01 - October 3rd, 2011 at 08:55 PM

Oh is it?? ;)

i have my sources. Joanna is one of them but I have got all the late type 3 stuff she has, pretty much nothing left for me to buy, maybe some small rubber parts as I catalog during the slow tare down.

I will PM you the email address.

Sunset Garage - October 5th, 2011 at 08:01 PM

Thanks Vlad, I used to know a few Aussie hoarders of NOS stuff but that seems like a very long time ago. Paul Medhurst of Type 3 Detectives still has a few parts, but he's pretty much mostly Kombi's and lowering gear now.

vlad01 - October 5th, 2011 at 09:42 PM

I think after all this throw away mentality most of the world has adopted the NOS stuff is like gold.

a set of NOS type 3 mud flaps come up on the samba for 90 GBP this morning, I contacted the seller right away.... Already sold

I find it hard to justify the $400 for the other set on the samba:crazy:

robb - October 6th, 2011 at 04:05 PM

you gotta watch out for the so
called nos mud flaps there was a guy in the states about 15 years back selling coppies really well made part number and all i bought in some sets for my self

and still have a set on my car now still ok so some of so called nos stuff could be repos from then and for that price its good buying have tried to find him again but no luck
