Hi Dave, I had a 73 Square just like that one for years. They drive the best out of all type3s I think.
Your car seems to be mostly complete and standard, So thats a good thing. I hope you do not find too much more rust to fix.
Keep the updates coming on your progress. I'm sure you will like it when you start driving it.
my first car (non road goer) was a 73 square.
i have been building a 72 the same color for my wife
welcome to the type 3 fold, great cars i have a 70 notch aswell
heres the one i been cleaning up for the wife
Thanks guys I always wanted one of these took a while to get the wife onboard mind ha ha. Im not convinced about the colour think that's gonna have to change. Im not scared of a bit of rust coming from UK have had a few old dubs in the past and the best I had back there had heaps more than this so I'm pretty chuffed so far had done a fair but of digging around it and hardly anything at all. Will keep posting progress when I can
Those 2 cars look like simular colours but I think the 72 is Wattle and 73 is Mustard. I like all the factory colours, If you paint them standard colour its much easier and its never wrong. My 2c but hey it's your hot rod.
I'm gonna go standard colours and if it was any other colour I wouldnt care but when I look at it I think it looks like a taxi and can't stop thinking about it that way ha ha. The roof lining is shot so that's all out now along with the dash switches etc I figure if Im gonna paint it which I still would have had to do if I kept it the same colour I may aswel change it to something I like and paint the inside too
true the one im building is wattle
That is cool as! I'm currently looking around for a square myself. Looking forward to seeing your progress
might be a bit slow as working a fair bit grr and funds are low but i can at least get all the free stuff done like dismantle and some mechanicals. im in North Brissy by the way if anyone is close by who knows a bit about these cars might be handy. as i said before i have been a bus and beetle man in the past so there a little new to me.
Slow progress but here's some more pics

Can anyone tell me if this is normal it seems to have been sealed with fibre glass or something I thought it as gonna be hiding something sinister but
when I scraped some off just metal,

Don't forget to remove the fresh air box, you can feel up and inside for rust. More than likely it's there.
If it is, it's not hard to cut an inspection hole in from the boot. In the 'bulge' at the back of the boot, just below the fresh air inlet you will
see a line of spot welds ~2/3rds of the way up. Stay above that line. If you start high and work your way down, there is a seam of rubber/body filler
there and best to stay away from that if you can to ease repairing. Or eve nbetter make a removable panel you can check in there once in a while.
I love '73's, best of the lot
fresh air box is out and no rust at all will post a pic when i get around to it
great progress
Fresh air vent

Think my welding needs a bit more practice
Great to see another type 3 getting ready for the road!!
If you can;t feel any rust inside the fresh air vent, amke sure you fill it will a rust preventer to it stay's that way.
Managed to have a morning fixing up the window
good work, great to see your getting stuck into it
Not been on here for a while. Been making slow but steady progress.........
