Was 1968 the only year in Australia that fastbacks came with pop out rear windows?
Thanks.
66 on
My 1970 has them and my donor 1971 doesnt.

Yes Sekurit.
they were assembled in ckd form .from german parts from around 69 on anyway so i believe 1970 was last of popouts. they were replaced by the slots
cut in the c pillars
from 71 on
I thought it was "only" the 1970 models that had them (ie. "August 1969-on" model)
Have never seen on 1971 cars (ie. "August 1970-on").
Both our 1970 models have had them (plates dated ~May '70). Says "SEKURIT-1" on the glass. Some other glass is Aust-made.
Don't think I've seen pre-Aug. 69 cars with them, though imported ones from Europe probably all had them?
I believe other countries had a standard and deluxe model..
TL: Touring Luxus
but maybe all had them in some countries...
as in North America..??
I wonder if it was cheaper to make them with the glass bending? [special glass??]
than with hinges etc???

66 model year started the flex glass on the Fastback through to the 70 model when flow through ventilation started according to owners manuals. The
Australian produced Fastbacks no doubt didn't have them generally to reduce production costs.

I just got a book for Christmas that mentions this. German-made fastbacks had them (although maybe only for some trim lines?), but in Australia they were only made for '69 and '70. Then in '71 the flow-thru ventilation started, and Australia went back to fixed glass.
Hey Nerf, could you share with us the title of this book you got for Christmas?
Thanks.
"Volkswagens of the Worlds" by Simon Glen. I understand he has been on this forum, at least in the past, which is what led me here.
(Sorry about the slow reply)
There's just one page on Type 3's in Australia, the book covers quite a bit of ground (literally).
