Hey all!
I'm currently in the process of looking at a Type 3 Squareback from 1969, it's an automatic and white.
I'm going to take a look at it tomorrow morning, but want to know where to look for rust and what not? What is the most common issues with the
automatics? What about the interior?
I just want to make sure I know what to look for tomorrow morning...
did you find your perents old one???
Nah, found one very similar though, Mum and Dad's old one will be found and will be bought later on.
I just need to find something I can get to and from work, and it looks like I found one around the corner!
Just need some information on what to look for when it comes to inspecting one.
Top of front guards, sills, floor pan, roof gutters, rear guard (all lower parts of the panel)
Thanks man! Will check it out...
Is there more to go wrong with an automatic?
I was told a general tip.... if you bring a magnet with you... Even a fridge magnet and see where it sticks and doesn't stick, you can tell where and what is full of bog or metal in the high prone areas.
take it for a spin but a decent one, if it changes gears nicely i dont see a problem, had no problems with my auto
Thanks guys, will report back later today with my findings!
Just quickly though,
I've got dual 40 kadrons that were going to go on my Type 1 1600, are they an easy install on a Type 3 and do they fit?
Thanks again!
no!
Ah, damn, I didn't think so!
I might have to put them up in the for sale section then!
Along with the engine...
Hey guys! Got some more questions for you!
The car I'm buying, herein known as Grettle, is an automatic and has been garaged for two years.
Besides the obvious, when it comes to an automatic transmission, what needs to be done when it comes to fluids?
Is the trans and diff still one unit?
What grade/band should I be using when it comes to the transmission fluid?
Thanks guys!
my vw mech takes care of my fluids but the filler for the trans is a tube in the engine bay, ill check what the fluid is i use tomorrow for you
Awesome, thanks man!
So keen to get this, she'll be epic when it's done and running great.
Got a sun visor already lined up and trying to source a roof rack

Sorry guys!
Unfortunately I won't be entering it just yet, I've got to get Zelda up and running and drive her around for now.
But if I found the right car, her name is called Heidi and she's a Type 3 late model Squareback, I'd jump at it.
type3disease,
From what I've heard he's actually sold the car. It was a white automatics late model square, had no floor pan rust but a few bubbles here and there
on the body. The interior was pretty gross and lots of bits missing from the dash as well. Wouldn't change up to third either. Oh, and the front
bonnet wouldn't open either, latch had snapped off.

so no coming to the dark side..........................superior model over here on the dark side, sell the beetle and buy a type 3 you will never turn back
Aha no coming to the dark side just yet, like I said, if the right one comes up for sale I'll be jumping on it.
But for now, Zelda will be put back on the road and will drive her around for the time being.
once here it takes ahold
