Our Ghia in progress
penguin - March 7th, 2020 at 01:39 PM

Okay,
Now to explain a few years back we were living in thecUS and bought a Ghia that had a bit of rust. Rather than ship it home to Oz and get it repaired we left it with a very nice panel beater who was doing work to our Bus (another story there). He found a local who was wiling to work on the Ghia in slow time (usual Ghia problems of rust etc). We thought it easier as the replacement panels etc were all over there.
Anyway, here is what he has managed to do from our using it in Washington D.C. to its moving to Georgia, him getting married (& injuring himself not long after) and him telling us he had done all the rust work. All in all, he has done a fantastic job and is easy to deal with.

That was Miranda (our Ghia)?when she got to his place. First thing he did was seperate pan from bodyand set about fixing its problems. There was a reasonable amount of rust, so both halves were replaced as well as a very strange hole in the tunnel - almost like it had been hit with an ice axe!

And

Then the halves and a bit of massaging to get them to fit properly

Then..

And...rhd pedal setup measured and tabs welded to pan at this stage. Yes, we are converting lhd to rhd.

Now the body work, but I have to work out how to shrink the size of the photos.
May have to continue this on the facebook page.

You can just use paint and experiment to get the most suitable size.

See if this works, all the latest shots are over 2mg each. This will be slow.

It had 356 front and rear brakes, now has CSP disc front brakes and 356 rear, 2110 twin kadron motor. Gilmore aircon (rhd setup) should make it comfortable to drive down here in summer. Ceramic coated heater boxes, vintage speed exhaust and a few other bits and bobs.

Penguin, remember the Okrasa kit? I also bought a 1300 crank and new rods - what a great engine! My '54 is a great car with the extra power. (Sorry to jump in here)...

Nice Greg, good to see that its installed. We had a sweet 56 that belonged to an uncle of mine that it was going into. But we just couldnt hold onto too many cars with three young kids etc. That looks outstanding :)
