KOM123 - September 2nd, 2002 at 01:23 AM

Hot off the press from the SMH website today.....

http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2002/09/01/1030508161921.html

Dammit can't stop the URL being mistakenly posted with exra coding on the end :( just follow the link then remove everything after .html to get it to work

Isn't it amazing how journalists, who don't know any better, always make puerile word associations with VW models.

Beetle = Hitler, Nazis, Third Reich
Kombi = Hippies, surfies, backpackers

I laughed when I read the journalist's take on Steve Muller's quote:

"People who were Beatles fans have gone out and bought them (Kombis)"

Hmmm, I think he meant BEETLES fans. There's no connection whatever between the Fab Four from Liverpool and the VW Type 2!

Except for they are both COOL, Phil!

Jay... who lerves Beetles AND Beatles ;)

When they are as old as a splitty they should be pretty cheap, might find one parked in a barn somewhere.

Sounds like the kombi is going to go the way of the new beetle, overpriced for the target market. Suppose the mini & pt cruiser screwed things up the same way. At least the Citroen 2cv clone will be affordable -ce la vie

The article said that Kombis were called Microbuses in the US.. which isn't true... Microbuses were in most parts of the world - in the USA they were called Station Wagens [with an o] - NOT Microbuses... as I believe Kombis are any version of the Vehicle... Panel Van etc.. whereas a Microbus has lots of seats and Windows, as We ALL know...:mad:
