Changing your engine number with moror reg.
jenz58 - September 6th, 2002 at 10:54 AM

Thought of something I needed to do with Bel's reg., change her engine number over to the new one.

I don't have a receipt of sale and I doubt if the person before had one either but it never went in a car.

I'm meant to go down to Motor Reg with Bel and the receipt before they will change the details.

Has anyone else had this prob and how did you get around it?:(

Do you just not bother doing it, how does this effect you selling the car at a later date?

Jen

Sounds like I've had a drink and it's only 10.56 am.

Not going to edit, hopefully you know what I mean:)

I think they are more worreid about body numbers. Given the age and that it is standard i wouldnt "think" they would worry.

OK I'll go down there and see them. It's just when I rang to enquire they told me to have a receipt so I was a bit worried

Its easy Jen. Just get someone to write a fake reciept for the engine. Get them them to write that they sold one *****engine with *****number to Yourself. Thats all you need to get the new sticker. They don't back check it at all. Its real easy.

Thanks Herbie.

I wasn't sure if they did check.

The last two owners didn't but it in their cars, decided for something more powerful, so I don't know who would have registered it last.

Cheers

Also the reason to have it changed is incase you bug is stolen and someone resprays it or something. By having the right number on the sticker and engine they can identify the car easier and also if you tell Vic roads that so and so engine on so and so car was stolen no one can reregister that car or engine as it will come up as stolen.

Hope no one tries to steal Bel:o

But I know what your saying

Cheers

Jen,

I am so sorry about the bill of sale. I totally forgot about it!
If you're still after it, I have your details and I will send it to you.
Once again, sorry :(

Hi Tnate

Thanks for that, it will make things so much easier.

I'm trying to keep up with paper work so it doesn't end up overlooked.

Been working on your car?

Cheers

Jen

Sorry Jen, I should of thought of it too. I've never actually done it myself though, although I've changed engines LOTS of times!

Got it! Ta

Tnate have sent an email

Hi Col, that's OK, I was just thinking I'd better seeing it the engine number is part of the reg. Didn't want problems in the future if I ever do sell Bel for what ever reason. (sold the Celica, dropped the price greatly to get rid of it in the end. Didn't seem to be the people looking for one :( )

helbus - September 14th, 2002 at 04:59 PM

The engine was changed in the Helbus about 7 years ago, and I didn't worry about changing the engine number as it was also stamped on the alloy fan housing. You cant see the other number unless you look behind near the distributor. I only realised this when I had the motor out a couple of months ago.
The number on the rego label is the one on the shroud.
