Cam Arnott - March 5th, 2018 at 02:12 PM

Hi Guys

The time has come to part with The Mighty Comet.

Asking $49,000 obo
Contact Cam 0437 seven one eight 889
Location Adelaide

Original Australian RHD model
Rare Ceramic Green colour (what's left of it!)
2056 Type 1 Engine with single Webber and Vintage speed exhaust, running a remote oil cooler- does not run hot! Built with hydraulic cams and Magnaspark dizzy so no need to set points or adjust tappets. Built by Geoff Scott aka The Kombi Whisperer
1967 Swing Axle Transmission completely rebuilt by Dave Butler with a taller ring and pinion for less revvy touring - Approx 3200RPM@100km/h
Bilstein shocks all round - excellent ride.
Creative Engineering steering rack so steering is nice and direct.
Front end was disassembled and torsion leaves cleaned and regreased and king pins rebuilt as well as new tie rods so it steers as well as one can.
Full camper interior with Birch ply panels and roof lining including original Westfalia fold up tables on cargo door and for seated dining. There is a 'spice rack' fitted to the other cargo door.
Roof is insulated and sound deadening installed throughout.
Newly retrimmed front bench seat with a Matt Miller (US) bench seat kit and seat belts for front seats.
Rock and roll bed / rear seat
Oil temp, oil pressure, fuel and voltage gauges as well as a tacho
Dual battery system and deep cycle battery with two accessory sockets in rear. Was great for running my camping fridge and lights.
Front safari windows (Wolfgang)
Headlight stone guards
Roo bar and spot lights
Rewired by previous owner who was a sparky.
New fuel tank in 2016
New battery late 2017
Not running heat at present but heater boxes are on engine and I have most of the steel tubing parts to make it work.
UHF radio
Spare wheel with unused tyre plus one extra unused tyre
Blazecut fire suppression system in engine bay and fire extinguisher in front cab
Full length HWE style roof rack can be negotiated as part of the sale or will sell separately after the Kombi is sold.
Has had Waxoyl type rust treatment in most of the nooks and crannies
Has full set of interior curtains plus front window screens for full privacy when camping. Also bug screen for the rear hatch.

The engine, gearbox, suspension, brakes and interior were done in 2016 and then did a 9,000 km road trip down the east coast in late 2016 with only one minor issue (broken clutch fork arm) The bus has probably done about 2000km since. Despite the ratty exterior this is a rust free Kombi aside from some very minor spots in the bottom inner of the cargo doors which has been treated and not changed during my ownership.

Be the coolest kid in school - roll with style in in this character laden beast that drives so well. Comfortable cruising at 100km/h and pulls well up hills with the torquey motor. It rides so much better than a lowered bus ;-) #raiseyourshit I would have no issue jumping in the old girl and doing another major road trip tomorrow. All the money has been spent so you don't have to. Selling as I'm just not using it and something else air cooled has captured my interest ;-)

This old bus was found in Tenant Creek by a mate years ago. He then replaced the cargo floor and sills but the rest of the bus was rust free.

Please note that the bus is in SA and as such there is no Roadworthy system here and as such I can't supply a Roadworthy Certificate. RAT 260 plates will pass with the vehicle.
