Wayne

good question not easy to do. the original inner bonnet section is pressed with indentations to allow the steering column and fuse box to fit. it wont allow the golf column to sit correct and flat under the dash

I cut out a section approx. 300mm x 200mm and welding in flat sheet metal to allow the golf steering column to sit flat against the sheet metal

this also allowed a bigger Type 3 fuse box that uses the indicator, headlight and intermittent washer modules to be fitted and a Audi headlight and hazard flasher switch under the dash, so I don't have any switches of radio on the dash its full plated to fill in the original holes for radio s, speakers n switches etc

So I used the Mark 1 golf column with wiper switch on lever with the outer column housing bolted to the new flat sheet metal and used the outer column tube to run down the original beetle firewall steering tube hole.

I used the lower section off the 65 for the steering box end. I made a stepped bush approx. 200mm long to fit in the golf section and the Beetle section, Both tubes are different IDs and it had to be stepped to give the strength also crossed pinned it into position, and hasn't moved in 20 years

Hope this explains

Not trying to be rude - but over 2700 people have viewed your ad on this site. If you're serious about trying to sell it, have you considered advertising it on Ebay, Carsales, Gumtree etc?

vw54 - July 30th, 2020 at 07:04 PM
