will a kombi sliding door handle set fit over here or would it be backward?

Well, I think it would be backward. If the sliding door is on the right hand side and you still had to push down to open then if you took that mechanism and put in on the other side you would have to flip it 180deg, then to open you would have to lift the handle.

check how it attaches, u should be able to tell from there.
