FS NSW: 68 type 3 wagon ej20t * keeping it for full rebuild*
Klaus - July 19th, 2009 at 08:24 AM

Just putting the feelers out thinking of selling the wagon
1968 engineered in nsw with ej20t out of 92 legacy , stock computer , 3 inch mandrel bend made exhaust pod filter and vl turbo pump (new when car was built).
72 type 3discs and drums redrilled to 4x 100 pattern, rebel wheels 15x7 (bought brand new for my gemini in the early 90's)
I've used the car daily for work for the past 5 years with this conversion not lying i've given it hell broken 1 gearbox (single side plate type 3) and destroyed 1 cv joint .
the gearbox actually stripped the fine tooth 3rd gear set.
The gearbox in it now is another 73 type 3 single side plate , bit noisy but thats what happens with about 200hp hooked up to it . I do have another box same again 72 type 3 ssp.
All steering is new , balljoints, tie rods , steering box has collapsable column.
new seatbelts, drivers seat is a saab 900 do have passenger but havent fitted it , I have og seats .
The car is basically stock looking a little bit lower with holes drilled in the bumper for airflow.
I've also fitted 28mm torsion bars and adjustable spring plates with new trailing arm bushes and donuts .
Looking for offers around the $9000.00
has rego till late september .
the body has some rust but will fix that soon , nothing major just small spots on guards and corner of windscreen.
pics are from a year ago it just looks dirtier now .
any interest call or pm me Klaus 0428 427 986

..have seen this in the flesh ..nice conversion ..as usual klaus!

Klaus - July 20th, 2009 at 02:36 PM

forgot a few things .

All brakes are new or rebuilt , m/cyl slaves linings , flex lines .
All wheel bearings are new aswell trailing arms and front .
crack free dash og not recovered , interior is red/black grey og again , floor pans are rust free .
The clutch is one from CBB 1800 kombi with a 800kg pressure plate (1700lb) never slipped or given me any dramas
Can also chuck in enough spares to almost build another wagon . Have an ej20t short block from a wrx that has rebuilt heads but a damaged bottom end .
the motor in the wagon had 55000kms on it and I have added another 60000 at a guess so its just passed the 100 000 from 1992.
try and find a early type 3 wagon with out major rust thats regoed and has 200hp (stock) and has proven its worth day after day . you all know that 10grand wont build a reliable 200hp vw engine that gets 9lper100.
some may argue that you can but will still need a freshen up at the 10 000km mark .
i am keen to sell so make an offer , I can only tell you to get fkd or here's the keys.
i could chuck a type 3 notch in aswell.

Hey Klaus that looks like a totally insane licence eating machine in the wrong hands!!!
Damn if I had the cash and the space I'd buy it and blow another gearbox!
Unseen it's still gotta be worth more than you are asking for it and heaps of potential. (especially that it's engineered)
Good luck with the sale mate.

NOICE ! Bargin! Good luck .mitchell

Klaus - August 27th, 2009 at 09:37 PM

yeah i know ,
there's a type 3 down this way that has had a efi type 4 motor in it and hp will only be about 90hp and it must have cost at least double what I'm asking to do conversion , nice job but bang for buck there's no comparison, or potential for hp than subi. motor goes bang buy another for $500 from importer.

izac - August 29th, 2009 at 09:48 AM

klaus, that thing is sweet. how does the engine cover work?
I'm contemplating selling my 65 Squareback as I need something a bit more reliable... this would be perfect, but just a bit too far away.

Klaus - August 31st, 2009 at 09:52 AM

car carriers arent much , cover is just mdf with piano hinge and truck cabinet style lock , works well but i do have a section of another wagon to graft in just a little bit higher to clear intercooler and intake.

kombi_kid - September 2nd, 2009 at 06:29 PM

far out i wish i had the money for that price its a bargain!!!

Klaus - September 2nd, 2009 at 08:09 PM

yeah add up the cost of doing a conversion and engineering it is cheap. Found some rust after taking front guard off so fixing this now will also change out windscreen rubber to the wide style . might even wash it .
if it doesnt sell i'll rip it apart and do a full rebuild may take awhile too many toys.

Hey Klaus
Would it be poss to get a gearbox that wont strip its gears or would you say this is the price you pay for 200+ BHP? This is one cool rocket ship!!!!:ninja:

JEG Bug 65 - September 3rd, 2009 at 07:22 AM

Klaus you have PM

Klaus - September 3rd, 2009 at 09:28 AM

just spoke to rod penrose geabout a gearbox similar to what andrew (GTmac ) is running type1 not porsche , and prices around 2500 are a good guideline . thats still using type 1 cv's , upgrading to the 930 style add about 1g includes axles and cv's. Compared the 2 types and difference is pretty decent.
Also with the engine cover I have cut out the rear parcel tray of another wagon and was going to fit this abit higher instead of the mdf it uses at the moment.
I'm being honest just checked front discs and thier pretty close to the wear limit so may need replacing. Still stops pretty good .
