Leaking axle
karmannghia60 - August 30th, 2017 at 07:52 AM

i had a leaking axle few weeks ago. Gearbox oil was leaking on the inside of the left wheel
I put a new axle seal kit through it and it has been good till this morning when I noticed what you see in the picture after 30 minutes of highway driving
This time its leaking from the outside of the wheel
What's going on it? Axle nut needs tightening further or something else?
I used a rattle gun to tighten it. Don't have a torque wrench to measure
The car has disk brakes conversion

Torque for rear axle nut is 253 Ft-lbs for the drive axle, 217 for the swing axle...which is quite serious torque....not having that, you'll have oil leaks and / or / damaged splines...

If the nut is not tight enough it will leak oil from around the o-ring behind the spacer, A impact gun is not good enough to do the nut up, If you have a 3/4" 36mm socket use a piece of pipe the appropriate length over the tee bar to get the torque required or hire a 3/4" drive torque wrench.
