Man it seems like there are a lot more bolts holding the case halves together in a type IV compared to a type I!! Pulled apart my first one today in readiness for a rebuild, and each time I thought I had found every bolt to split the case, there was always another one holding the damn halves together!! Good fun though.:P
Quite right. Having just rebuilt my Type 4-engined Kombi, I know what you mean. There's that one extra bolt and nut behind the flywheel, for
example!
But the basics are much the same. Take your time, don't rush, do everything methodically and refer to your workshop manual frequently. Rebuilding
a Type 4 engine is lots of fun.
Just one more reason why type IV's are 'better'....
if you go to http://www.type2.com you will find a complete list of fastenersand a lot of info pertaining to a t4 rebuild
