I'm sick of webbers due to excessive tuning requirements and poor reliability. I have a 2.2l type 4 in a beetle (mildly worked) and don't
whether to go solex. I am also thinking about injection, who does it well and how much does it cost?
after market fuel injections are very expensive (dont know exact figure) maybe a type 3 or type 2 fuel injection could work?
if you went to smaller solexs obviously wouldnt get as good performance out of your motor!

Aren't "Kadrons" actually Solex carbies?
thay are and they bolt onto the standard type 4 manifolds as well. They are a pretty good setup for a type 4 engine if you are after something bigger
than standard.
I would have to ask what probs your webbers are giving you though, they should not need that much tuning once setup they should be fine. Jetting

Never heard of Webers described as unreliable before - except by a crooked mechanic who ripped off a girlfriend. As for FI, I've calculated a good system, using Aussie components, can be built for about $3-3500.00 (if you're a little clever and can get TIG done for a reasonable price.) If you decide to go this way, here's a tip - falcon injectors have about the perfect flow rate for a 1.6-2l engine, are readily available, cheap and reliable. I do plan to go this way eventually, but I need to complete the engine and run it in first. If you don't think you can handle the technical details, there used to be a mob called "Hellbug" who did Haltech systems - but I'm not sure how active they are now (website hasn't been updated in years.)

The idle is very rough with the engine shaking heaps. There is some flat
spotting under acceleration. I presume by the exhaust colour that it is also a rich mixture.

What fuel are you running Jimmy? All fuels give a black exhaust now. The grey colour came from lead which is no longer used. I would pay a reliable
shop to tune your webers and I'm sure you'll be happy with them again.
I heard Jeff had stopped working on VW's altogther and has moved up to Coffs or somewhere in Northern NSW. A guy I work with is friends with
him.

standard kombi and type 3 injectors should do you well. Haltech systems are supplied by EFI technology at taren point. Throttle bodies will go
straight on your webber manifolds (dont come with the system). Will be easy install. Relatively.
I ran webbers for years no problems at all. Just did oil changes and valves every 6 months. didnt touch carbs. How old are yours? I imagine a worn out
set of webers is just as bad as a worn out set of solexs, dellortos...

Thanks for the info Amazer. How much do you think it would cost to set that system up? Also do you have the phone number for those guys who sell them? Have you seen a good example of these systems in a type 4 engined bug?
