whats involved in fitting a 1500 type gbox into 62 bug?

Marcel I have a 1500 box on my '60 K/G.
It fitted OK but 2 things I noted are that the torsion bar arms were a real bugger to connect and the clearance bet the inside edge of the guards & the outer edge of the tyres can almost be measured with a feeler guage!! That should not be a problem on a bug. Great box tho, I think it may have a slightly higher final drive ratio- nice for country roads & good Km/litre.

I wasnt so much worried about the tire to guard fit just if it would bolt up to the torsion bar arms.
I was under the impression that the distance between them was different?
so its just that the axle length is different on earlier 1200 style gbox and the later 1500 style gbox

If you fit your axles to the 1500 box it will go straight in and your wheel clearance will all be the same as before.
New box ,old axles and you carn`t go wrong.
Your spring plates then line up as the axle lengths on a 1500 box are longer.:thumb
