adlbeetle66 - August 21st, 2014 at 07:44 PM

This is my 1966 Beetle...
The plan is a fairly mild rat...- cheaper that way!
Have done all the electrics...
Its just been converted to 12 V.
1300 Removed...
1776 Engine going in soon.
In the photo, it shows the brightness of the 6V Bulbs (candles!!)
Awesome interior...
Some custom looks...

Today i did a bit more....

I cleaned out the gearbox - amazing what you can do when you use your elbow grease!! Before and After pics are there

I will be putting new gearbox mounts on later...
I also pulled out the fuel tank, will be repainting it... RED!!

Will also be putting new tie rods in!
And will be putting new brake fluid bottle in..

Am grinding out gearbox this week end.
After Gearbox grindout, the gearbox will be cleaned again, and 1776 engine will be put in...

adlbeetle66 - October 3rd, 2014 at 03:53 PM

Thanks Mate. Will try and keep everyone posted. Does anybody know where you can get VIN Plate replacements?

ragged - October 3rd, 2014 at 05:34 PM

1966 vehicles were not fitted with vin plates! Dave

adlbeetle66 - October 4th, 2014 at 02:03 PM

OK. How funny! Mine seems to... you can see it below and to the left a bit of the brake fluid bottle!

Another Update:

Gearbox Mounts have been put in. Gearbox has been ground. New Pressure plate with collar type has been purchase and fitted. Fuel Tank has been sanded back to metal nearly all over. Has been sprayed with primer. Been sanded back with wet sandpaper. Ready for final coat of primer. Also removed firewall insulation and prepared area for new one.

hellbugged - October 4th, 2014 at 05:43 PM

Good stuff

Clearancing gearbox went ok?

adlbeetle66 - October 6th, 2014 at 12:14 PM

Yep. Too easy. Did the whole thing with 2 X 60 Grit Emery Flapper Wheels.

adlbeetle66 - October 7th, 2014 at 10:31 AM

Did a bit more:
Fuel tank painted and installed.
New Firewall insulation kit installed.
New engine bay seal installed.
New throw out bearing installed.
New J Pipes and Extractors With Single Glass Pack Exhaust installed.

The engine is turning and working but is having fuel problems to sort out now...

adlbeetle66 - November 1st, 2014 at 12:41 PM

Got a new fuel pump in and all is well.
Just needs a good tune - any tips?

beetle_nut - November 1st, 2014 at 12:58 PM

Is that your fuel filter in the engine bay near your dizzy area.I'd be moving that mate.I run mine where they come out under the car near the gear box.

adlbeetle66 - December 3rd, 2014 at 07:22 PM

Yeah. Was thinking of doing that, but its not under any pressure so it doesn't really matter. But i suppose you can't be too careful!?

adlbeetle66 - February 15th, 2015 at 04:36 PM

Another update.

I have put on my new bumpers and given them a good polish.

My front end has been pulled apart, and thanks to fellow Dubbers, i have successfully installed drop spindles, new King and Link pins, new bump stops, new tie rods and new shock absorbers all around.

I have bought some 15 X 6inch Widened Rims to go on the rear too!

Did a bit more on the Beetle, as it was raining, so no outside activity :fakesniff:

I ground back the Decklid for rust repair asap. Found that it was full of half a ton of bog!

Also, got the back bumper on, all the dents work perfectly for the Original Classic rat!

The number plates were on just for looks, makes me feel closer to the day when they are bolted on for rego!
