Nice score there and it doesn't look like it is in too bad a condition.

Will get some photos of the roof and door later, plenty of cut and weld to do but nothing that can't be done.
Anyone got a spare exhaust they want to part with?

wombatventures - December 14th, 2017 at 06:11 PM

Chucked a battery in her Sunday, old stuffed one that gets about 60CCA. Plugged the switch wires to hotwire her, (Ignition key is disconnected, will gave to checkout why.) and she turned over slowly. Will pull the plugs, check the points and make sure there's no gremlins before I connect up some fuel and drop a real battery in. Hopefully she'll fire up and there won't be to much trouble.

Bit of light reading for you Terry

pete wood - December 16th, 2017 at 08:32 AM

Dang. That's pretty rusty. Are you going to fix it all?

wombatventures - December 17th, 2017 at 06:58 PM

Pile in the toilet just went up two feet Bert! and I put the old Car and Practical Mechanics out by the seat on the front veranda to browse when I'm out there!

The plan is Pete to cut each bit in strips and replace . Will take out the hood lining to see the extent of the inside and remove each window as I do that section then repair around window and replace the window rubber. Each section will be individually prepped and painted before going on to the next one. Blokes got to have a hobby!

I think it must have been sitting upside down coz all the rust is at the top!:lol:

Bizarre - December 18th, 2017 at 06:27 AM

That is a LOT of rust :(

wombatventures - December 18th, 2017 at 01:04 PM

Not as much a this....

m4co - December 18th, 2017 at 08:25 PM

That's an intimidating amount of rust!

I do like the duct tape rust repair method.

wombatventures - December 22nd, 2017 at 11:33 AM

Any tips for pulling out the back side windows without damaging he rubbers? Will do one to start and repair around that before doing any others.

Those mags for sale would almost pay for the car!

Cool.

Dont bother saving the window rubbers, you can get generic rubber and get the windscreen blokes to glue up a new one, did it for my Super back window.

After all these years I still think about my baby-poo brown Variant.........

I guess if you get sick of it all, you could just find a new roof or build a ute.

wombatventures - December 25th, 2017 at 07:32 AM

That has been in the thought process Pete.

That's what I was thinking with the mags. Might scan them all and turn them in to PDFs. Then got them for reference later
Will replace each rubber when their done. Would like to keep the deluxe trim with the chrome strips.

wombatventures - December 25th, 2017 at 09:22 AM

Compared to some of the rust I've seen cut out and replaced this will just be slow steady work
Eventually I might become good at it!
