my rust and respray money pit
Marilyn71 - September 18th, 2012 at 07:40 PM

After spending a stack on custom 15"x7" rims and engine rebuild I looked at the body with bubbling paint, blistering rust and a floor pan that fills with water after any decent rain and thought I'll have to get the body done.
Anyway 3 weeks after being in the shop, the rust and dodgy paint has been removed leaving the metal looking like Alien had sprayed its blood around the sills doors and some gutters with all the holes that were left after the bog was removed.
Now we're almost ready for the 2 tone paint. Burgundy along the sides upto the side chrome strip and a pearlescent cream for all the upper areas.

Thanks looking forward to the finish. Then its on to the interior with some Marilyn Memorabilia thrown in. Hoping to turn an easy steer knob with her likeness into a hood emblem.

At last the primer is on and the spray can start hopefully next week.

Great news. Keep the pics coming

After some delays all the prep-work is finished. Vic the spray painter had to work on a resto of a 55 Chev. Now that was a sight to see. It came out stunning the paint was finished in Ford XR 6 blue. That put Marilyns work back a bit. But if she comes up as well as the Chev I'll be a happy man.The body has been rubbed and blocked to a great smooth base for the top coats. I've been promised by Friday for the burgundy colour on the lower body, but due to previous commitments delaying the work I can only hope. The Fiberglass guards and side skirts have been soda blasted and all the cracks and holes re-glassed. These are sanded, primed and ready to go. After all the waiting and worrying about colour selections its great to see the end is nearly in sight. We kept the carrera side skirts as it matched the other guards and less rust issues in the future. I hope to have some pics early next week of the progress.

Good to hear Marilyn is getting closer to rolling again. You and Doogie dog will be able sit back and admire Marilyns new look.

Pearl applied to the cream. It will look better in the sunlight.

Marilyn71 - November 20th, 2012 at 12:59 PM

pearl

Marilyn71 - November 20th, 2012 at 01:09 PM

Hope to have the car finished very soon. The pearl looks amazing but cant see the full effect until she is out in the sun. The lids and guards are being done today.
Dropped the front seats off to get reprofiled and recovered in red vinyl with cream piping and a cloth centre insert for the center back rest and seat. Wow the price is as much as a good lounge from Harvey Norman. But the end result should be amazing.
