to those who spotted us and helped

we recently traversed up the coast from the gosford area to nashua, in the hills near bangalow in a 58 beetle and a 67 splitter and saw some cool people along the way!!!!!the splitter has not been registered since 82[from what we can work out] and so needed a bit of work, but not too much! i spent about 10 weeks between work and packing, getting her ready to roll with a new 12v system and upgraded breaking as well as a few fundamental extras. she sports a tp 1600 that came out of a running super and i upgraded the brakes to a duel curcuit master from a later bus[new unit]i also tinkered a little with all mechanical bits and replaced all saftey aspects! we left on monday 28th of may and got 4 klm up the road and found that the gen was hooked up wrong and so we stopped to do a little crying for the first time! i called my mech...rocky[legend] and we rummaged around and found another one and a reg to match and we were back to the car park! i spent the next 4 hours getting the old one out and putting the new one in before firing up at 4 am and not getting a satisfactory idle. the wife and son were in a hotel and came back to find me at 6 30am. i had the engine back togethjer and the gen working and the exhaust leak fixed, but still couldn't idle. another call to rocky and we had picked up a new dizzy and set of points and were ready to go. i installed and was stuck, so i called rocky again and thanks to a noble mechanic[with a black out in the shop] hecame out , tuned it, unstuck the throat of the carb so it could suck again[do'h] and waved goodbye! so the first 24 hours were spent at the caltex just north of tuggerah. any one see us? we got to coffs that night at about 10 pm, but not without a good few waves and the help of astro56! steve is a truley sound individual who patiently held the torch while i swapped carb's over just north of port maquarie just after dark.he offered us a bed, dinner and a shed to park the splitty in so i could tinker before heading off the next day! we told him that the next 10 k's or so would determine our stay or not! he then gave us an escort all the way to macksville where we kept on going to try our luck for distance and he headed off for dinner! great bloke!! [good luck with the 56]we then got to coffs, no dramas and had to snooze as i had slept about 2 hours in 48.next day headed off about 8 am and croozed all the way to grafton and got the splitty tuned by col rose and the timing checked before the last leg to byron where we settled at about 1230.anyone else se us on that trip? we are thankful to all the waves and help we received along the way and urge all else to help where they can because that spectacular in nambucca will see no beer bought by steve or rocky! its on my tab!
happy dubbibg
