early valance on later bug
cnfabo - September 1st, 2013 at 09:12 PM

Hi guys, probably a dumb question but I'm fitting a early valance on my 68 bug and was wondering why does the strip that hold the engine bay seal sit lower "10-15mm" then the channel that is already in the engine bay?? Its doing my head in ,to me its telling me the engine sits lower in a earlier bug but I know it does not...there is no way I could raise the valance as then the guards would over hang lower....

Me daahhhhh.......brain freeze...

Thanks
Fabo

6 volt cars use a different profile seal.

the early one is a V shape which sits above and below the tinware, later cars its like J profile which tucks down the side.

Yep here ya go.

They moved the holder strip up higher on later cars and the shape of the seal changed to suit

68 on cars use this one

My '68 is a German build and uses the 6v seal above, or at least that is what it had when I got it over 30 years ago. Wish mine had the later seal as mine is a bugger to set up with one layer under the tinware and the other above.
