Advice needed - replacing window scrapers - '75 Dual Cab
modulus - February 10th, 2014 at 05:54 PM

I have some minor rust in the bottom of my doors - before I get that fixed, I want to replace the window scrapers, felt channels etc., which are cactus.

I've never done this before, but I've heard that it is dead easy and a 100% fun job.

Any advice on suppliers, special tools, good pyschiatrists welcomed.

Thanks in anticipation.

The best way to do it would be to get the rust fixed and when they paint the doors, the best paint job will be done with the scrapers removed. Then the new scrapers and moulds can be fitted after the new paint job. I would recommend the German made scraper/ mould assy (can't remember the name), as that is what I fitted to our bus a few years ago. I think they were about $120 per side, but the mould was straight and shiny, and the rubber was juicy, and the clips were nice tensile. Cheap products can sometimes end with plasticy scraper with a wobbly mould and soft clips. This can end in an average finish with a short lifespan.

I cannot give advice on the cheap product fitment as I steered clear of them.

Thanks Pete. If you can recall the brand (or where you bought it) that would be much appreciated, as I'm happy to pay for good seals.
