Hey everyone, soon i will be fixing up the interior of my kombi and i need some ideas! At the moment its got a full 8 seat microbus interior but its
very rough and really needs totally re doing. The thing is i plan on using the car for goin away alot and a lot of camping so i want a bed but i dont
really want cupboards and all that but i still want to be able to seat atleast 5 people in it. Any one got any ideas on what i could do? any pics?
Thanks,
Alex.
I was thinking something like the interior of the wotsup kombi that was at the shootout.
Best of both worlds. We have a bed/ seat in the back of our bus, plus the middle seat which can be taken out.
This way we have a 5/ 8 seater and can still go away on camping trips, or lay in the back at the drive-in.
hey hel bus u got ne pics of this it sounds pretty good
I always wanted to fill up a king size doona cover with bean bag balls, and have a king size, wall to wall bean bag.
that would be cool I reckon.
seatbelts may cause an issue though.
Hi there,
Have you had a geezer at my Kombi.....i have got the set up you are talking about....bed in the back, centre seat and good to go camping in!

I have had some tabs sewn onto the exteriour of the sun shade. (Outer edge)
The tabs are about 7cm long and there are 6 of them. 2 at the top, 2 on the side-nearest the door edge and 2 near the front of the window.

kombiluva, thats a sweet bus you have, and that is exactlly the interior i was thinkin of When sleeping in the back is there much room? I am 6ft tall, do you reckon i would fit in a bed like that if i make one for
my bus?
Thanks heaps,
Alex.
In mine I have the rear seat fold into the bed, using the top of the engine compartment as the other side (like everyone else!!)
I am 6'3' and find that it is a beautiful sleep ... then again I have always had more than a few drinks when I have laid down my weary head
It is a good size, even for a bigger fella ...

If you need some inspiration on how to do the interior of your Kombi then go here:-

They are based in the UK but make some very smart interiors.
I'm thinking of copying their layout.

i made a bed from wood.... when not in use it can be stored above the engine hatch.
Firstly i lie down the backrest of my rear seat.... then i put three planks of wood 10cm X 150cm from the middle of the engine hatch going over the
folded down rear seat and hanging about another 20cm over the seat.
On these planks of wood i put three flat wood peices (60cm X120cm X 1.6cm) on top of these planks.... the piece which is closest to the frount of the
car is then supported by four legs... this makes quite a sturdy base.
Then i cut up two single foam mattresses... and they cover the entire base and hang over and fill in the gap in the width of the car. ( the base is
120cm wide kombis are like 150cm wide, so the matress is 150cm wide as well)
when the bed is not in use all of the wood and mattresses can fit above the engine....
Im sorry if this is all confusing but.. if you are intrested i could explain in greater detail and provide some piccies.... all the wood cost me about
$50....

my very simple rear seat/bed was done by the guy who owned JOE b4 me...I used it alot when i was at uni and it seems qhite ok...not shmick but
ok...
the back rest of the seat is held by bracets at the side from which it can detatch...the back rest then is put infront of the seat base and thus forms
a platform the entire width of the kombi
Then one unrolls the double futon and bingo there's a bed. Its amazing how a double bed fits exactly in to a kombi (66'
oh yeah there is a bracket and flod-out legs to secure it in the front of seat posn..
This olny takes ply and screws and bolts
