Like many(most) of you, I spend much of my time, both awake and asleep dreaming of what I can do with my beloved vans.
I have read a great deal about putting different kinds of engines in to my Syncro but have lately been thinking about the possibility of putting a low boost turbo on to it. Firstly, I don't know a great deal about 'turboing' a vehicle - can anyone post some links that might help me research this project; and secondly does anyone have any info about putting a turbo on to a water boxer?

I thought the auto was suppose to be pretty strong?
Aint it the same as an Audi box or something???

As for the turbo - contact Steve Carter (1302 Steve)
He has one on his 2.1 Wasser.
It is in a beetle though.

If your going to boost your van, your probably better off getting a supercharger for it.
Get something like the 2L toyota 6 cyl supercharger. With a blower your get instant torque from idle.
You will need injection as these blowers were not design to have fuel going thru them.

Many people have commented about the weakness of ( particularly) the Syncro transmission but there seem to be plenty of them around with 2.2 or 2.5 Subie engines behind them, and even a few with SVX 3,3's and they seem to be having no problems - so far!
Maybe the way they are driven has a large effect on their longevity????
I am just considering upping my waterboxer until I get around to putting something else in it.
A supercharger would be worth looking in to.
Any links for info purposes anyone?
F;intstone can you elaborate any about the Toyote supercharger you mentioned and needing injectors please?

Please see pics of the blower attached, its from a 1GGZE engine, any jap importer will generally sell these.

What I meant about the injectors is, your engine will need to have fuel injection. in order to use this blower, as the fuel will damage the seals.

Consult a injector specialist as to the size of injector needed for your engne spec and power output.

after reading your last post, personally, if your going to change engines, don't waste your money doing a blower/turbo conversion, cause it might cost around the same after you have had custom manifolds/exhaust manifolds made etc.....put in a subie motor from the start and enjoy the twin cams, turbo and injection !!!

There has been a bit of talk about a kit being developed in the US, John Connoly of aircooled.net has a prototype fitted to his syncro.
have a look at http://www.shoptalkforums.com/ the wasser boxer / type V section.

Some companies in the US. are now starting to offer larger WBX motors using a combo of the 1mm larger pistons and stroked cranks from 78- 82mm. 95x82=2399cc and would have considerably more torque than a stock engine!
