Some Syncros came with 16" wheels, to fit these in, the rear trailing arms were extended to alow extra clearence between the tire and trailing arm.
There is a place in Canada making moddified, +25mm, trailing arms but the cost is high once landed here in Aust.
I'm wondering if any one knows of an engineer that has or could make this modification so I can put some 16's on my syncro.
Steve
Dyno - one of the Qld buggy boys, has made some custom trailing arms for various buggys. I'm not sure how to get hold of him, but Brad or any of the radical sand blasters up North should be able to put you onto him.
Contact Custom Offroad as they may make them. I have never seen longer T3 arsm as they are nothing like the others.
thanks for the replies,
I will give them a call.
to have a look at some ---fast forward
the 225/75/16 tyres I want to put on will fit but it only leaves a few mm of clearence at the apex of the arm!
Steve
I've got about 8mm clearance to the trailing arms on my kombi with 238/85-16's..... they haven't scraped yet! Too bad if I want to fit chains though....
I gave George at Custom Offroad a call and got a straight 'no, can't do it and dont know who could'.
Any other ideas or suggetions?
Steve
Steve, are they nearly rubbing on the tread or the sidewall? Maybe you could looking for different sized tyres to give you more clearance?
I don't know if the following sizes are even produced, but for the sake of an example: a 205/85-16 (narrower but taller) would give you more side
clearance, or a 255/65-16 would give you a bigger contact patch, with a slightly smaller O.D.
I've found that some tyre places will chuck a 2nd hand tyre on a rim so you can check the fit, and remove it again, for minimum cost (say $10-20). My
guy even does it for free!
I don't know if this helps, but it's the only suggestion I could think of. It would probably be cheaper than custom trailing arms too, unless you
can find a longer pair at the wreckers somewhere locally....
Steve,
this thread is worth reading:

What 16" wheels are you fitting?
Also, your mate who bought the spare wheel carriers in from Bernd in Germany - is he happy with them? And do you know how long they took to get to him
once he ordered them?
Cheers,
Andy
