cracked chassis
beach boy - May 18th, 2004 at 09:37 PM

Hi, I have a shortened pan on a Manx I'm looking to restore. There's cracks around the handbrake 'hole' which look like someone's tried to ptch in the past.

I can easily weld them up, but there was also a rust hole or two in the middle backbone of the pan underneath - is it beyond help, or does anyone know of any structural/supporting mods that are good to stiffen things up?

Thansk for any advice...

Start again and use good pans. Your current one will be nothing but trouble. When you make a new one support it properly with a chassis stifner around the outer edge.

Thanks a lot Brad - guess I need to get a new front half (I want to keep the VIN on the car). I also need to add IRS - ho hum.

The chassis supports you mention - do you know where I can find pics/diagrams?

use a superbug rear and a good front. There are pics on offroadvw.net
