Hello Mate,

From what I understand, the 1641 is just a 1600 with a bore kit...thus thinner barrels. You would be better with the stock size barrels to cope with the extra stress....

Go to the A.J.Simms website....lowbudgetracing.com or just lowbudget.com...he sells a bolt on turbo kit for a stock 1600 for $2000 U.S. It fits under the lid and if you go to the dyno results and 1/4 mile times he is getting 14 seconds out of a stock turbo 1600 which can be driven daily with standard irs gear ratios.

Thats impressive. With the blower, what carb and unit etc are you planning on using??
The cam should be kept close to standard and the heads could probably use a little unshrouding of the valves and a minor port job. You can keep standard size valves though.

Give us you planned specs.....

Matt

Jamie , yep subaru is for me ,I can build two more 1641 with the parts I have and have a super charger as well ,just looking for some ideas for a cheap build with power to go ! seagull

Yeh, it is very interesting allright. I am just getting into it and looking at the possibilities. Food for thought certainly.

So you are going super rather than turbo? Why have you made that choice? I don't know much about superchargign so I was wonderign if/why it is better.

With regard to turbos etc, have you had a look at
http://www.dune-buggy.com/turbo/index.htm

It is an excellent source of info with heaps of links too. It has helped me get going at least understanding it.

Go the "dak dak".

well I have water cooled turbos in my mates shed ,and a super charger I can get very cheap like $300.00 or less .The turbo needs lots of pipe work headers ect ,and the super charger would be very easy for me , The other thing I can turn it off when I dont want it ,Um sure for the last one , hee hee .I am not sure what power would be there never been in a fast super charged vw , I seen one the other day in Perth Oval but did not think it was fast

Hey All,

A really cheap way to turbo is to use standard header and just run a single pipe from the standard flange up to the turbo which sits just above the generator. On the left of the turbo you have a dcoe draw through and on the otherside of the turbo, the exhaust pipe runs back down and out. A "t" piece inlet manifold similar to standard attatches to the bottom of the turbo. There you have it....
see ...www.mufflermike.com and look at "Jims turbo set up"

Lots of guys run this.........very cheap.

what is the average power output of a supercharged 1641 with standard heads?

71superbug - June 14th, 2004 at 01:30 AM

what is the average power output of a supercharged 1641 with standard heads? and a dual kadron setup?

boof2332 - June 15th, 2004 at 10:24 PM

There is no average, as there are not enough around , let alone with the same specs.

You probably couldnt run kadrons with a blower....the blower set up comes in two forms like a turbo....draw through or blow through.
Draw through is where the carb is mounted before the blower and a blow through(usually fuel injected) is where the blower is blowing through the chosen place of fuel delivery.

What did they used to say....a judson made a 1200 go like a 1500...so a small toyota blower may make 1641 go like a 1800 kombi motor.....anyone ???????
