Type 3 fuel economy records
ACE_76 - February 3rd, 2006 at 04:14 PM

I've seen a few threads where people have asked what fuel economy others get these days. We keep an eye on it for our cars (no Kombis though - sorry!). Here are some figures for a 1971 type 3 Automatic:

1585cc tired standard engine, old original Solexes (125 main/140air), LRP, original FI dist, @ 7.5 BTDC:
28.5 mpg highway (av. of 2 checks). This was about 3 years ago.

1641cc higher compression (reco'd), new (Brazilian) std. Solexes (140 main/140 air - huge flat spot with any smaller mains), 95-PULP, original FI dist @ 7.5 - 10 BTDC:
32.9 mpg* highway (av. of 2)
26.9 mpg* local trips (av. of 5)

* uncorrected - probably true value is about 5% lower due to odometer error from smaller diam. tyres.

A Wheel's review from 1971 gave fuel economy figures of 26.3mpg overall, & 28-30mpg cruising, for an automatic TLE Fastback.

(For those that like L/100km:
L/100km = 282.5/mpg)
