wheels - they are round
fuz - August 21st, 2003 at 10:28 PM

any ideas where or what cars matches the wide 4point wheels fer my beetle.. or is ordering in german discs and drilling them to a generic pattern the easier option? can anyone point me in the right direction

I dont think that any other car has the same four stud pattern as a vw, so wheel choice is limited.

Fuz,
4 x 130mm is not real common. Only to VW I think. You have a choice of older 14inch wheels (Aunger, Chevoit), Empi 8 spoke, Rivieras, BRMs, Some other rare Porsche styles like 2 litre or Performance superlites 15x6. 15 inch will probably be your limit. I'm building a 72 super and have got German disks/drums drilled for both Porsche 5 stud and Commodore. Picked up a nice set of 7 x 17 inch wheels with 215/45 tyres.

Try Toyota Toraga 4 spoke mags, I have seen them on a beetle.volma

from what i can tell the datsun 240z are very close.. i am going to test my mates on them.. so i figured if a jap car fits then maybe someone would know if any others do.. the only thing is the datto wheels are also rare as hens teeth.. so we share the same smelly cramped boat

currently in the middle of doing this crap too. custom wheels (simmons etc) look like being cheaper than doing all the adjustment and redrilling to fit other wheels. looking like 2k to fit 16x7s all round. OR you can redrill to a really common stud pattern and go to town. just check that the really common stud pattern you choose does wheels in the right backset. try and not alter your steering geometry, or they no fun to drive.
:D

there is a post of a set of rims for late beetle four stud... look for it. i tried the look on my bus. maybe you might like 'em.

fuz - September 10th, 2003 at 09:30 PM

since i made the post i found that all 4 stud chevrolet wheels will suit, i am about to purchase some from a mate with a chev wreck.. they are flatties with nut pattern, nice but prob not very good to cool the brakes.. i dont know how to describe them they look like giant inverted pan lids.. with class..

Peter Leonard - September 13th, 2003 at 03:07 PM

chev huh.. cool. get a pic for us?
:D

fuz - September 14th, 2003 at 08:10 PM

fuz - September 15th, 2003 at 04:30 PM

steelies i think... i hope.. no im sure they where steelies..

steel! :)

Bizarre - September 15th, 2003 at 05:15 PM

Ummmm.... if you are just going with steel why bother.
Wouldnt it be easier just to get widened rims put on a VW wheel.

What ET are the Chev wheels???

BiX - September 15th, 2003 at 05:59 PM

I have done a little research ino the whole wheel thing, and it depends on 2 things looks or performance?, size?
I want to upgrade my brakes, so new stud pattern is easy, but here are the options
1- Get 5.5 by 15 inch wheels with up 195 wide tyres (wheels = $100 each )
2- Get old wheels and have anew outer section fitted, with whatever width will fit, been quoted 130 each for this.
3- get simmons to drill the correct pattern in a new set of mags, last time i checked about 2000 to 2500 depandant on style etc.
4- get new drums or discs re drilled price ?
5- get a 4 wheel disc conversion done with VT rotors and calipers, looks like about 1000 to 1500 for the brakes plus add about 200 per wheel for cheap holden wheels.

1= $400 ( wheels only)
2= $520 (wheels only but wider than 5.5 inch)
3= $2000 TO 2500 (whatever size u want)
4= $?
5= $2300 (get brake upgrade and any wheel u want)

cheers for the reply BiX, thats really eye opening, however im still not 100% sure which way i will go yet cos im considering baja conversion so i was just going to put the steelies on for the time being, between saving and actuating..

crazyfiggi - September 15th, 2003 at 08:20 PM

i walked past a volvo dealership to day and noticed wheels on display which had a 4stud pattern which looked alot like a vws, im gona try to find out more soon.

Peter Leonard - September 15th, 2003 at 08:55 PM

hmm option 5 sounds good...
anyone had any experience with this method?
do we fit them ourselves? do they fit the new conversion?
will they void my new car warranty?
:D
