Bobtail exhaust 4 into 1 V Merged collector slip fit style exhaust
Anthiron - March 19th, 2013 at 12:09 PM

Basically aside of the Bobtail being more tucked in away from prying fingers. I am interested in what pros and cons there are to each system before I buy. Both seem to offer roughly similar ground clearance.

The engine will be most likely be a 1600 with a Bug Spray but will maybe be bigger once the car is back on (off) the road.

The second one has way more ground clearance than the first, use the rear cylinder pipes as a guide, the merge one has everything above the heads, the 4-1 sits alot lower, hence, if you fit the merge system the cage and exhaust mesh will need re-engineering. (Smiley did this to one, also cut up the system to make it less obvious I believe)
The slip joints are a bit of a pain too, but deffo more power for an all out engine with the merge system.

Slip fit it is. Thanks Matt

Hey Matt. When you say the slip fittings are a pain, what exactly do you mean?

They are a pain to get them all sealing right. I ended up welding mine all together and adding flange joints between #2 and #4 cylinders and the collector.

Check out Page 17 of my build for my initial fit.
Page 18 is where I cut it up. And page 19 where I welded all the bit back together.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. :D

I had one of these on my 1640 Baja...........great clearance, good performance and exhaust note :tu:

I have also used the slip joint systems too, but found it was very high at the collector and was hard to then cover with the cage (for rego).

Thanks H. I might do that if I remember when I am back from work.

I actually have posted the wrong picture for the first exhaust. That one uses J tubes. The bobtail style I am considering has the rear pipes up over the tappet covers. ClassicVeedub sell a stainless one.

After re-reading smileys thread I might go with the Bobtail.......Less hassle!
