I paid $750 at the time, unrestored for spindles with arms, make sure you get the arms too as type 1 arms won't suit.

yeah i think i paid $650 for mine with arms....then $150 for 4 new balljoints

type 1 arms will fit, yes you do need 181 lower ball joints. Pick ball joints up for $15 whilst your picking up a pair of spindles, 3hrs north of Perth (on a 737)

I got mine from the states. $350 + a few hundred in freight, the arms are thicker and stronger but you can make do with beetle arms

The Thing shop have spindles and arms listed. I just ordered 181 lower ball joints this week.I cant comment on service as I havent heard back from them yet.
I found a local set of spindles without arms so Im going to use the beetle arms.I recently got a new set of ball joints pressed in.Does anyone know if they can be pressed out undamaged so I can invert/reuse with the 181 spindles.
Cheers

I don't think it's advisable to reuse the ball joint once pressed in as the knurled outside of the balljoint conforms to the hole in the arm and the press fit is what secures the joint in the arm. It's not unheard of for them to come out of the arm in severe use so every step needs to be taken to make sure they stay put.

Thanks Matt . I'll hunt around for a new pair. Shame to waste them as they would only have a couple of trips around the block while tuning on them..

Trade them to someone who needs new ball joints in thier beetle and swap arms.....
