baja colour?
Boozer - January 5th, 2004 at 01:28 PM

Ok soon I'm going to be doing a full rebuild on my baja, and replacing the body for many reasons. As we're going to be repainting it I've been thinking about changing my paint job to something that suits my baja's attitude better. Do you think I should change it or keep the same style? i was thinking I would change it to a bright strong yellow all over with black interior and white wheels something like the pics below. Either that or do a really good camo paint job but I think the yellow would be more baja friendly.

Yeah, I've thought about camo too but buggies and bajas are usually bright fun colours. So como may seem a bit boring compared to everyone else on the beach.

Yellow is Cool, Not as cool as ORANGE of course~!!!!!!:D

yeah I think the yellow would be a more fun colour that would suit my baja better, but i'm still not sure if I should stick with my current paint job.

I think your current colours are kinda cool and fun. I love metallic paints, and wanted new beetle blue to start with.

Pastal colours look good on baja's or buggies.

I'm current;y painting the Dog-O-War and it took a long time to decide what colour it would be. The Orange grew on me but I hated it for the first year. Orange has character and represents the "taste of fun" that Baja's are and the 70's era that bore them.

Camo was also on my drawing board. There is a T-shirt available that has a stencil of the "Naked Lady" shape but it is all done in the camo colours. That would be very clever as a Camo paint job I reckon. Unfortunately the wife refused to have it parked in the driveway (even just as matt green) and would not consider being seen in it on weekends away. Sounds like a blessing eh but I do enjoy her company cause she can shut the kids up.

I don't know what it is with Yellow. Seemed like every man and his dog had some form of Yellow VW when they were younger. The US even had a Yellow Baja and Dune Buggy Club where you have to have a yellow ride to get in. I like the colour but it's over done and shows no imagination. I agree with the Ford Colours. Had I my time again and owned a show pony / trailer queen and access to several hunded dollars a litre I'd probably go the Ford Metalic Purple.

Since the Dog is a work horse I'm tempted to clear coat the sanded Orange, Grey Primer and Steel finish it currently has and retain the "Rat Look" Alas the wife woks in the local paint shop. She found an extremely hard wearing matt finish that has a tiny metalic spec. I painted the guards and pushed my way through the nearby white pine forest and no way would it budge or scratch even. Three months parked in the burning sun in the back yard and no fade, no peel even from the fibre glass. Didn't even prime it, just brushed it on. The finished job will be sprayed on though. What's the colour you ask? Guess you get to see it when it's finished.

The Bronze.

I'm in the process of building another Baja. This 'new' one will be painted in the Subaru WRX Impreza 'WR Blue Mica' with a hint of Pearl, with a few coats of clear over it all. I think it'll look incredable, when it's finished. It'll also have tinted windows, with 'Centreline' style wheels.
I'll have to put up some photos of her, when I get it all done. As the wife says, "It's a long term project."
So it won't be completed for a while. Well, at least she's on my side!:kiss

I love the "desert sand" colour VW used on its military cars and have wanted to paint my beetle as such but from a practical point of view a bright colour such as yellow would be a better choice- more than once I have nearly been run over by near sighted 4X4'ers- so a highly visable colour might save your arse off road.

my 2c anyhow

Well mine is the second variation of that theme that I have seen, so looks like we will have a third. :thumb

Michael Nash had a dark metallic blue one, I got a light metallic blue (with a hint of purple) one, and now we'll see a middle metallic blue one. I'll agree the tinted windows and centerlines look cool on Baja's :D

Looks Sweet Mattie.

Imagine three blue Baja's as wedding cars. Ceremony location and Photo's would look awesome. A Bride and Groom toping out over dune crests. :o
