How much turn?
Boozer - June 10th, 2004 at 10:23 AM

me and my Dad are going to (hopefully) cut and turn the front end of my baja this weekend. We got sick of pushing sand and looking like a hotrod. We're confused though because we've heard that you turn it 1/4 inch or 1/4 turn so which is it? by the way it's a linkpin front end.

Mate, you turn it however much you need to turn it. Check the angle of the trailing arms with the car sitting as per normal, then lift it up to where you'd like it to be. This is how much you need to turn it. Simply cut the centres, turn about that much (working angles here) and tack weld in a couple of places. Then refit temporarily and get a couple of guys to jump in and see where she sits. It should be where you wanted it, but if you reckon you need a little more still, or less, just cut the tack welds, reposition it and weld her up. Job done... Oh, but make sure you keep the beam straight, and cut off the bump stops while you're at it.

1/4 of a turn will be far far to much. Put a scribe line on the beam before turning and turn it 1/4 inch (5mm) tack weld and check before welding it up fully. Do one beam at a time to keep the alignment in check.
