roundtoit - July 24th, 2008 at 08:25 PM

watching this build with interest, are you putting in a beam extender, running without guards?
What type of welder do you use for welding in the floor. I only have an old fashioned arc welder, have to b uy a new one soon before i start building my car, what is the best to buy in your opinion? Cheers for any info and good luck with the build..

renebugrod - July 24th, 2008 at 08:39 PM

Thanks for watching I'll post some updated photo's soon.

I use a Boss Turbo Dual Purpose 150H Mig welder, gas and gassless, does panel welding and up to 6mm with ease. Set me back about $600.00 was recommended to me by a professional welding engineer.

The car will have no guards, no roof, half windscreen, will be registered for the road so will need to run small trailer style guards at first. Interior will be bare, see photos to come.

VWFREAK - July 24th, 2008 at 09:04 PM

Great stuff, any idea what the final build will look like.

:tu:

renebugrod - July 24th, 2008 at 09:24 PM

Working towards something like this!

Will be making a fully road legal Volksrod, that you can build yourself or let us do it. This will be the prototype and a kit will be made from this. I am using everything I can from the original Beetle, to make the project affordable for anyone to build.

newghia - July 25th, 2008 at 06:44 AM

AWESOME work !
the pan looks hot
how long have you been building this?

renebugrod - July 25th, 2008 at 03:25 PM

Been building it for about a Year now, but spending a lot more time on it now. Here are the seats finished.

renebugrod - July 25th, 2008 at 03:28 PM

The back seat, I have padded foam to sit on while driving to give some comfort.

greedy53 - July 25th, 2008 at 07:58 PM

have a look around this site
http://www.volksrods.com/

renebugrod - July 25th, 2008 at 09:29 PM

Thanks Greedy, been there many times, have got many ideas from the site. This first Volksrod I'm building will be very simple, not too much complicated welding or fabrication. Like the word volkswagen (the peoples car) this Volksrod will be the peoples Hotrod.

Dak-A-Tak - July 25th, 2008 at 09:45 PM

I'd like to know how are going to get full rego in qld ? ( no roof , cut windscreen , no roll cage , no strengthing ).
Like to build one myself but doesn't come under hotrod rules .

kroozzn63 - July 25th, 2008 at 10:04 PM

hmm looks sweet ,will the seats be legal like that? either way go hard dude prove us all wrong rego that little rod,
love the vision

renebugrod - July 25th, 2008 at 10:08 PM

Good Question! Cut roof has been approved, cut windscreen is under engineering certification at present, roll cage is not needed, as for strengthening, this is already approved by engineers, I can post photos but, the plans cost me a pretty penny, so I will post some photos, but not in detail. Thanks for the post. I am happy to answer any Questions. Cheers

renebugrod - July 25th, 2008 at 10:20 PM

The seats are not legal like that, the law says there can be no rips on tears in the seat, (none I can see), the reality is when I go for Road worthy, Just put seat covers on!

renebugrod - July 27th, 2008 at 06:24 PM
