Are Rods legal in NSW?
Ollie - February 17th, 2010 at 01:01 AM

Hey guys, just wondering whether if Volksrods were legal in NSW?
I've never seen one on the road and all the ones on this site seem to be from different states (I may not have dug back into the archives far enough). What do they have to have to make them legal?
Sorry if this is a repeat post!

Cheers,
Ollie

I think the best answer here is to contact your engineer first.

You'll want to ask him about beam extenders, chop tops, and guards.

Chops tops are legal so long as they meet guidelines in inches and a z-cut and not straight cut. I'm pretty sure that there is a beam extension that is legal for NSW. Best pm Stoppa on here who had a rod registered in NSW before he moved to WA. He will know some if not most of the legalities (and loopholes).

also ring the rta tech support line as they can tell u whats legal or not.

I wouldn't hold my breath about a beam extension. Change of wheelbase puts you in a very different category when modifying cars. Been there.

there are heaps of rules and regulations....

as there are heaps of NOT VW hot rods.... in NSW

anything is possible...
depends on Your Engineer... and the law.. [rules]

and then be pulled up by every highway patrol that sees You

4 beam ext, 2ways 1cut and extend or 2beam extension ,depends on engineer.
wheels must have cycle guards

This may soon be changed to Individually constructed vehical and ALL modifyed cars will fall under this catagory ,there may soon be a time when the most valuable asset your car has is full NSW rego .
