Air Bag suspension Legal?
rothko78 - April 30th, 2010 at 09:15 PM

Hi

Tried to search this but couldn't find anything....

Is air bag suspension legal or able to be engineered for street use in NSW?

Cheers
Brad

Not sure about NSW but here in VIC you can have it fitted as long as there is a limit switch fitted which prevents you from adjusting the height while the car is in gear. Very easy to overide when it is fitted.

I've also heard that the car must always be above the 100mm required by law so that if the bags fail it still rides at a safe height.

Yes its legal with a engineers report. There is a mob at Forster doing the conversions. They also organise the report. I'll see if I can get his details.

be aware that they may not accept the engineers report from qld.

May is not the key word if the engineer is not on the RtA certification list it
the report will not be accepted

air bags suspension in QLD, can have air bags as long as its Digital dakota system ( autolever) and all switches cant be operated whilst driving.
then you ll get a mod plate and engo Cert.
but other than that get it Regoed in NSW its all legal as long as its modplated

As Grumble said - as long as it was originally certified by a NSW RTA Engineer
A Qld mod plate means jack when you take it to a NSW blue slip person

Otherwise it will be a new eng cert berfore you will be able to get a blue slip

It is not something you can hide
