dorigtt - December 7th, 2012 at 03:22 PM

What suspension setup are these racers using on their cars?

SebastienPeek - December 7th, 2012 at 03:58 PM

Doug Sweetman - December 16th, 2012 at 06:13 PM

So few corners.... So much fun !

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Adam through work a few weeks back - a thoroughly nice bloke.

Is the black r35 Willall racing ?

snitz - December 16th, 2012 at 06:40 PM

Their Facebook page has a black R35 that they are doing development work on at the moment.I guess its Kiers replacement..ask Adam ..he would know as he works for Kier.

Doug Sweetman - December 16th, 2012 at 08:28 PM

Yeah I thought it was that one - I had Keir, Kurt and Adam and the boys working on my project for a couple weeks, top team and very professional

debiasi4 - December 17th, 2012 at 08:55 AM

Hi doug was great working with you. Didn't relise it was the same doug sweetman on here!! That's Keirs r35 he was having some tyre insues but was starting to get a handle on it by the last few runs. I haven't pulled my car apart yet but think I cracked a barrel it was blowing a little puff of smoke on back off all weekend and was down on power. On the last run I did it developed a compression leak. It was a pity as I just put slicks on it for the first time and couldn't really try them out. We have just built a 4.3 litre engine for Keirs car and it is making some insane amounts of power. Should be very quick next year.

snitz - December 17th, 2012 at 09:02 AM

Well I guess kier wont be needing his old RH9 Drag/track car anymore..send it my way..lol. Say gidday to Mike Petrou from Snitz for me..So Kiers car must be making same or more power than the Pilatus R35 plus more torque with cubes?.

Doug Sweetman - December 17th, 2012 at 09:25 AM

G'day Adam ! Great to see you obviously enjoying the new slicks.... Coming over the top of the hill in that first corner looked right on the edge in the vid !

Bummer about cracked barrel though, that must be quite unusual in an NA bug though ? Where do they crack ?

Wow 4.3 sounds like a monster for the r35..... After going that big I presume it would have aftermarket turbos on it now ? Will be a weapon.....

corvair88 - December 27th, 2012 at 09:55 PM

Hi Doug
I have experienced a crack on a couple of my cylinders as well.
It normally is at the top of the barrel and runs in line with the piston direction.
When it occurs, it blows out a compressive fuel air charge past the copper ring and cast cylinder and in my case resulted in a perfect oxy torch cut through the head.
Adam's engine choofing ( special VW termanology ) didn't sound that extreme and will be fixed in no time, ready for another day.
From Adams friendly competitor Rene'

Doug Sweetman - December 28th, 2012 at 09:31 AM

Cool, thanks for the explanation Rene, glad to hear that it didn't sound too severe !

hypo-vw - December 28th, 2012 at 07:36 PM

great driving guys ..... Adam does look like he is on the edge in a couple of those runs , but I dont know of any other way to drive .....
thoroughly enjoyed the vids, thanks .

debiasi4 - January 5th, 2013 at 08:28 AM

Got my engine apart. It has put a nice crack in the barrel and marked up the head a bit.easily welded though
Had anyone else cracked barrels before. It shows no sign of detonation. They are AA brand barrels
Keirs r35 is running pretty small turbos as he wants to make go power in the lower rev range. Sebs pilatas r35 makes more top end bit it's only in the last 1000 rpm that it makes more than Keirs.
I do like to slide it around - probably not the fastest but heaps of fun!!

Are they the forged or non forged type?
Have heard of the non forged barrells cracking, and also probs with pistons when reved hard.
Guess thats why they sell both types.

Cheers Col

debiasi4 - January 5th, 2013 at 04:20 PM

I didn't know there were 2 types of barrels. They look like just cast ones. The pistons are forged AAs though

Doug Sweetman - January 5th, 2013 at 10:35 PM

Much more fun to watch too Adam !!!
