Wakefield Park - fastest aircooled
IWL_86 - March 14th, 2013 at 08:20 PM

Who holds the fastest lap time at Wakefied Park in an aircooled vw powered vehicle?

sander288 - March 14th, 2013 at 08:31 PM

Have to be Rudy in his sports sedan; or Reynold's 1600 vee. I'm leaning towards Rudy

Last year's supersprint results; wayne penrose came out on top

IWL_86 - March 14th, 2013 at 08:40 PM

Do you know what times they did?

Wayne Penrose did a 1.09 last year I think?? And that's quick!!

A friend of mine has run a 1.00 flat in his supercharged honda integra type R.

Not exactly aircooled though really!!!! I'm not sure if I've ever heard of a bug or any aircooled vw doing much under what wayne posted except a vee; which technically isn't a vw

Just looking for a base of comparison.

I think that 1.00 range is entirely possible for some of the great builders/drivers on here.

Vee's count as long as its aircooled

hellbugged - March 14th, 2013 at 09:11 PM

Rudi did a 1.06 one year (2011?)

IWL_86 - March 14th, 2013 at 09:29 PM

Wow that's super impressive!!! 1600 class?

hellbugged - March 14th, 2013 at 09:32 PM

Craig Torrens - March 15th, 2013 at 01:12 PM

Yep, Rudi is type 1.

I have seen on speed week that commodore VN sixes do 1.09, must come down to driving skill, is this a fair summation.

yeah that class is super competitive very good drivers and more development than a humble vee dub fan! however it should be very attainable to be close to the improved prod times pre turbo days!

matberry - March 15th, 2013 at 06:43 PM

Oops, my mistake, turbo type 1, sorry peeps, was thinking mostly about being air cooled, need to plug the brain in next time ;)

HappyDaze - March 15th, 2013 at 06:51 PM

Daniel Reynolds has done a 1-07.2.....[naturally aspirated] 1600 F.Vee.

Zanello 1.12 .... 1998cc, 10 year old tyres

Great driver, well sorted car..... Becomes a HP race to go under this time in a beetle IMHO

Super1302 - March 18th, 2013 at 07:25 PM

Thanks for the dates:tu:
What sort of HP to get around these sort of times

Thats a good question; my guess would be 130hp (ATW) +

hellbugged - March 18th, 2013 at 09:04 PM

yeah you can put 130 hp in a standard 60's beetle.......but it wont do a lap time hey ;)

1.07 for the under 2ltrs pretty rapid! great time that paul did new tyres would drop a few seconds easily. getting close!

hellbugged - March 19th, 2013 at 05:18 AM

1.07 ? You've lost me

HappyDaze - March 19th, 2013 at 05:22 AM

All this theory proves nothing!

There's only ONE WAY to find out......get down to Wakefield Park on the 25th May.
