Old School FV racing

Next year is the 40th year of FV so I have decided to pull my old mans FV out once more. I is the original Elfin FV built in 1964. There is one small problem, I drove it into a wall at Winton a few years a go and its looking pretty sad. Here are some pic of it in the day, and hopefully what it will look like again.

Nice old Elfin tubeframe dude.
I thought you'd appreciate my old Elfin. Its a '69 with Nimbus Mk11 bodywork.

Thats a nice nimbus. Talking of tubeframes, here is one we have have for years. as you can see i've alway like being behind the wheel.

Hi there buggyboy it's good to some of these old FV's out and about. How often do you race it?

I have a 1969 Standfast that currently has Stag bodywork on it...I have tracked down the original open nose bodywork which was moulded off a mid 60's Repco Brabham.


The motor is in bits at the moment after I ran a bearing at Eastern Creek last year. Rebuild will include an bigger sump, external cooler and filter.

Old school racing is not always smooth sailing, especially on 10 yr old tyres :( I have since shouted myself a new set of tyres and the difference is amazing! I have also bought a set of Mangles for it. In the last race of the day on the day the photos were taken I put it into the tyre barrier and got a free ride back to the pits in the medical emergency car. ;)

I dont race it as such, just enter in historic sprints which are becoming more popular. I cant justify the $480 licence fee. But I would probably compete in it around 6 times a year- great fun for little amount of $$$$

I much prefer the older racers...

To stop oil surge, get an anti surge sump from Stan Pobjoy. This will stop you running bearings. Most of the circuit racing and hillclimb Dubs are using one.

Yeh forget the deep sump, u need Stans sump, especially for the corner forces that u can get on the track, an external oil cooler will help u dramatically on the track as well.

I'm not 100% sure we can use the pobjoy sump in Vee competion...I thought it was too big. (ie too much oil capacity increase)
