Sydney Dragway Nationals Update
HS618 - November 3rd, 2013 at 09:30 AM

The Nationals is over for me for another year. It feels good mingling with the top players in my class and the sport in general.

The highlight for me was having my family with me at the track (immediate and extended) which doesn't happen often.
I know I've said it numerous times, but I believe that every VW Drag Racer should participate at least once in a National Title "Xmas Tree" event to soak in the experience and atmosphere of competing with the best.

I know I've done it numerous times over the years, but it hasn't diminished my enthusiasm. No words can describe the feeling.

The meeting itself was challenging weather wise (the V8's in my class were complaining that they were a 10th down on ET, they were lucky, at times, I was down 3.5ths!!.

As usual, I qualified in the second half of the field (19 of the 21 entrants were in the 11 second zone) with a 11.764 @ 111.96mph.

Won the first round with an 11.909 on a 11.82 Dial In (Reaction .042 - safe) with a Corrcted Altitude of 1550 ft.
In the second round, I stuffed up (sorry, I wont publically state what I did) and lost the race (to the No.1 qualifier)
Still kicking myself a day later, but I can guarantee, it won't happen again.

Thanks Owen, for the other thread and photo (it didn't feel that high but at least I matched Craig in the othe lane)

Unfortunately, I hurt the engine (possibly through overheating) driving back through the pits following someone towing an altered, waving to the crowd and talking to anyone passing by at 3 kph through the busiest part of the pits (nowhere to pull over to cool it down)
Nevertheless, I will be back running the Track Champs final in December. -

Hi Henry,

sounds like you had a great time surrounded by family and friends. Bugger about the overheating and don't worry about making mistakes, this is how we learn and as you said, you wont do it again.

Cheers, Kev :tu:
