We should get a top ten or something going for 1/4 milers, Top ten Racers, streeters, NA turbo etc..
Might provide some inspiration for the upcoming vw nationals!
it should be segregated into types too.
ie type 1, type 2 ,type 3 etc.
to be honest I dont think there are enough quick cars to have a top ten of all models. Better start seeing some times so the list can get crackin. Anything aircooled with a VW badge welcome!
so waterpumpers aren't welcome?
why not? All in!
YAY:bounce
here's a long shot. how about heart transplants?
LOL!
My girlfriends 350Z does 14.5's. Not a VW I know, but still. Gets the ball rolling
I'll be stoked if I can get my 917kg superbug into the 14's at the Nationals, even if it is 14.99999999999999999! I think I might have to take all the interior out & really flog it to
7500rpm in first & second to get her moving.
Jak
Still astounds me how light beetles are. Even full weight superbugs. 917 is'nt anything.
Will take you alot less than 365NM's and a 5 speed tiptronic tho.
yeh 917 is still light, but not next to all the 800kg beetles that I race against.
Jak
make em take a couple of passengers, jak
lol, Thats true. Ahh well, you could always just cheat and do the turbo thing
the other guys get in my car & call it 'the limo' since it's so quite inside, u can hear the stereo, even have a conversation, once
again, courses for horses, it's what I want.
The other supers getting around are getting their weights down to about 840-850, but thats with lexan windows, no carpet, soundproofing, stereo or
back seat. Mine is a daily driver so it has to be comfortable, especially with Sienna & Dominic in the back nestled amongst the roll cage:thumb
Cheat and do the turbo thing?......What the??
I know... Just stirring. It's an inhouse joke between some of my mates and I... Of which none are on this board :jesus D'OH!
Actually, I know what you're talking about....
Yeah, don't get me wrong. I really dig turbos. But alot of my peers 4 bangers don't come anywhere near the quality and user-friendly-ness (even a phrase? lol) of some VW set-ups that I've seen. Shimo's kit and Leigh's '59 are prime examples of top quality turbo flat 4's.
To begin: just a couple from this thread-more to follow...

89.5mph almost cracked 90 ( or 144.00 km)
Was hoping to get 14.5 but missed 2nd on last run.
lots of fun, will be back out there soon
so Low Bug, you have slowly been Lowering your ET's..
Do you think you have much more to gain before spending Big Bucks Again.?
Is there any more weight to be taken out , or is daily driving a big factor.?
11.22 tom laube
12.5or 7 not sure "kafer"
12.2 adam dibiasi
11.22 tom laube. 2332 Superflow heads lightened car. Not street legal.
12.7. "kafer"- David O'Conner. Fuel injected n/a beetle . Fully street legal and registered.
12.2 Adam Debaisi. Turbo fuel injected intercooled 1916. Fully street legal and registered.
So far all I've done when racing is remove all loose items from my car, its pretty much as I drive it on the street.
As far as injecting it with more money to go faster, there are plans for improvments this year but it all comes down to available funds as we all
know.
Lowing ET's, yes I think I can but I'll have to spend more time on setting the car up and removing more weight, aprt from that its back out
to CBB and on to the dyno for more tweeking. Also the more you race it the more comfortable you become and relaxed so everything comes together
perfectly.
People often talk about the weight factor, my car is only 810kg's well thats what it says on the rego papers.
Daily driving is not a factor as it only comes out of the garage for fun, the engine is so well set up that it can be driven like driving miss daisy
or more agresivly when punching it down the 1/4 without changing anything, thats what EFI gives you.
Cheers All
Hey lowbug, take off the fan belt - theres 10 hp... and 14.5s
Yeah you could do that but with the fuel injection system it need the full voltage so the car would probally have a power drop and not run
correctly.

Now theres a good argument for carbs on the dragstrip.
Lowbug, can u tell us the specs of your engine? I'm always interested to hear what other people have built & are running.
regards
Jak
I doubt it would make any difference if the car had a well charged battery and wasnt left to idle too long before the run. Let it warm up with the belt on and pop it off in the staging lanes?
