How are you preparing for the drags at the VW nats?
fullnoise - March 7th, 2004 at 12:58 PM

Gosh I'm looking forward to the VW nationals in April. I know time will fly and I'll run out of time to prep my car.

I'm hoping to get my oval into the 14s. Here's what I've got to do between now and then.

Dyno the car to sort out the jets and timing.
Put the front half of my rollbar in (It won't make the car faster but I've been meaning to do that).
Replace the bumpers with some T-bars to save weight (About the wieght of the extra rollbars Doh!).
Fit the power pulley.
Change to a 36 horse fan shroud and give the engine tin some TLC. That won't make it go faster either but I want to make it nice because I might enter the car to be judged on Sunday.
Polish the car to reduce wind resistence.
Go on a diet. It's easier to figure out how I can lose a few pounds rather than the car.
BTW I hate seeing fat drag racers with cars with carbon fibre components. Surely weight watchers in cheaper than carbon fibre component manufacturing??

Nice one CT,
I will have to talk to Rod Penrose about that!

My car is ready to go, might just pull out the back seat to save a bit of weight.

Oops!:D

CT I am no preparing at all...

Dont forget its down to driving skill not flat out performance.

All the races will be in a Bracket format Dial your own .... which is great for the slow cars like mine.

But hey i would still like to go under 12s down the 1/4 but not in my streeter... thats for sure.

Carnt wait myself

It wil be intersting to see both yours n Jaks cars cranking it up.... Do you think we can convince Carter to get his Back side Track side.

Dont forget you can race any car at the Drags.

CT

I might stop drinking Beer the week before. And go to the Can before the race, or go on the Jockies diet.

Hey Beck have you fixedthat OIL leak

Pete actually has to do some pretty quick fibre glass work on this car to get it ready for the Nats

I just want to get a good quarter mile time. I doubt I'll be consistent. I'm sure each time I'll be trying to lauch and different revs. It might take a few goes to figure out how to do that preload thingy that the drag racers do to ease the strain on their drivetrains.

P.S :puke last minute lightening

Hey LIGHT Beer why didnt i think of that

:puke you can also use the other end fora bit more lightening as well

I hope Jak dosent eat Pasta the nght before.

jakriz - March 9th, 2004 at 07:49 PM

Not eat pasta the night before, what are u nuts Dave? I always have Tortallini Bascaola the night before race day.

I'll just have to start hacking metal off the car instead:thumb or build a faster motor!

helbus - March 9th, 2004 at 08:03 PM

Dial your own bracket

Is that the one where an auto microbus doing 27 second quarters can end up beating everyone?

As long as the bus and driver are consistent.

vw54 - March 9th, 2004 at 09:47 PM

Yep thats the one Sometimes teh SLOW car wins .... I can proove it as i have a few of the trophies on my wall.

Now i dont know if the timming system will go to 27 seconds I am hoping for at least a 20 second pass with my 1500

come along n have some FUN.

OvalGlen - March 9th, 2004 at 10:10 PM

i believe it is 33 secs.
I managed to go too slow on a moped testing the lights, was 34 secs and the MPH goes beserk - it resets the time and thinks you went through time trap in fraction of second....
