Going to Drag the BUS
57kombi - December 23rd, 2004 at 06:59 PM

The Volks enthusiasts are having a bracket session at the drags next month.
I am going to have a go in the bus.
Guess I am going for the slowest award.
So what time do you think I will run.

1600 twin port
1500 box (straight axle)
extractors.
Bloody big air pushing body.

Cheers
Dave

not sure but if you fit safaris front and rear and have them open you will prob drop a second off your time

jo_tas - December 23rd, 2004 at 08:41 PM

i'd say an easy 12 or 13... minutes, that is ;)

t2 - December 23rd, 2004 at 09:01 PM

are you going to warm up the tyres at the start i think you have to so you will get good traction

you should try this for really good traction just watch the wall when it launches,
if you do this you might take the orange smoothie , you know you want to

vwtyp2 - December 24th, 2004 at 08:12 AM

sweet Dave.
I'll be there too.
finally got my van back yesterday.
Do you know what the deal is with entering etc. and what time we need to be there?

debiasi4 - December 24th, 2004 at 08:52 AM

gates open at 5.00 racing starts at 6.00 approx i'll be there
it'll be cool to see a few kombis out , im working on my dad to bring out the 65 single cab

57kombi - December 24th, 2004 at 09:30 AM

Adam.
Might have a small problem.
Do I need seat belts.???

Dont think I will pack the chute, I wont take it to full throttle.

Seriously I am thinking they might knock me back for not having seat belts. I will take the cooler off the roof and the cases, even though it would look cool dragging with the stuff on the roof rack.

Cheers
Dave

vwfastback - December 24th, 2004 at 10:48 AM

lol.
You will need those seat belts. They will check your front wheels aren't wobbly, your brakes are good and that your seat is secure. They will make sure there is nothing that will fly around.
They will check to see that you are not leaking oil as well.

It's all real good fun though.

Dannyboy - December 24th, 2004 at 11:00 AM

Here's some encouragement!

Dan:P

vwtyp2 - December 24th, 2004 at 02:15 PM

maybe we need to encourage Kurt and Michael to come out too.
Kurt has a n ej20t T25, and Michael has a vr6 T25.
the more Kombis out there the better. :)

BenettonVW - December 24th, 2004 at 02:31 PM

Leave the luggage on!!!

t2 - December 24th, 2004 at 02:33 PM

i dont think you can leave things on the rack , at the nats they were making people take there hub caps off:repuke

57kombi - December 24th, 2004 at 03:57 PM

Dan.
Can you get a harness I can borrow.
Might see about fitting one seat belt for the day.
I have upper mounts hidden behind the lining, can use that and put some through the floor.

Cheers
Dave

57kombi - December 24th, 2004 at 03:58 PM

I am also thinking I might do late 20's.
What does a stock split run, or a stock 1600 beetle. might not beat that.
Also what does a 1200 beetle run, got to beat that!!

Cheers
Dave

vwtyp2 - December 24th, 2004 at 04:09 PM

nah, I had one in the baja, but sold it with.
I'm hoping to get somewhere in the 15's.
you should beat Barry and Keith in their K.G's and they were doing 22's.

t2 - December 24th, 2004 at 04:37 PM

wow 15s i am hoping for something under 20s ,
do you guys have any idea what my bus might go with the 1903 and straight axle out of a 62/63 notch

vwtyp2 - December 24th, 2004 at 04:46 PM

bay or split?
maybe high teens

t2 - December 24th, 2004 at 04:49 PM

split
the motor is 74 x 90.5 with 044 heads ported and twin 44 idf webbers

57kombi - December 24th, 2004 at 09:51 PM

Sauerkraut,
vwtyp2 has a v6 in his, thats why he thinks 15's,

Cheers
Dave

OvalGlen - December 25th, 2004 at 09:48 AM

It might be 21 secs, but if you can drive consistently every
time then you could take home the trophy.
Thats the beauty of bracket racing.
But dont forget you still have to cut a good reaction time at the lights and not red light.

OvalGlen - December 25th, 2004 at 09:50 AM

And Guys, dont forget to fax your time slips to Pete - You will be on the Top 50 Aussie Vee Dubbers Drag times list -
guaranteed. " even the Kombi ! "

Is this the thread which was "deleted"?

Please use the freaking search button before writing "j'accuse!"

Andy

OvalGlen - January 2nd, 2005 at 09:40 PM

Jim and Andrew, I think you'll find that Drag Racers
are beyond such childish behaviour - Bye
:thumb

57kombi - January 3rd, 2005 at 10:16 AM

Thank you Andrew for you comments.
But YOU should check YOUR facts first before making comments.
I stated that my post had been MOVED, NOT deleted.
It was MOVED from general posts to Drag, by someone who did not tell me or ask.

I had posted it in general so more people could see it, especially the bus owners.
If I had wanted it in this section I would have put it here.

And a great start to the New Year.

Cheers
Dave

ColumBUS - January 8th, 2005 at 03:40 PM

everybody is so push these days, give it a few days and life will calm down again.

my stock 1600 fully laden with a large black man, a small bogan and a large me ran 23 seconds

vwfastback - January 10th, 2005 at 10:13 AM

Come on people,

It was the volksenthusiasts drag day sunday at AIR. Been advertised for months.

How many VW raced? What times did they do? Did they get many runs in?

Were there many in attendance?

Pictures? surely there are some?

Fill in some details please.

57kombi - January 10th, 2005 at 11:09 PM

I didnt go but I heard it was shit.
Only Dan (vwtyp2) in his v6 bay went down the strip, did a 16.1 I think.

No one else turned up.
I wasnt going to butcher mine and fit belts just for 1 day.

Cheers
Dave
