You know those Briggs and stratton lawn mower engine powered ones.

yeah the briggies go off, we had a 5hp in a mini scale go-kart that we built and was awsome fun! But the drag guys go off with there motors like counter weight the cranks lighten everything bore stroke them.

that is so cool

do you think Kim will let me do that to the Victa Dave?

HotRodMatt - January 30th, 2005 at 08:20 PM

Shame it's a photoshop.... :(

There are three obvious faults with the job...

buzzbug - January 30th, 2005 at 08:32 PM

which are ???

don't leave us hanging:o:o:o

Yeah, they are boring to watch, but I bet they are a load of fun to drive for the kiddies...

The quickest one I saw on the weekend ran about an 8.80 @75mph for the 1/8 mile - so that would be about a 13 or 14 on the 1/4 ? if the gearing worked out (which it probably wouldnt).

Pretty good for only 200 odd cc of overgrown lawnmower motors.

They really bomb the hell out of the engines.
There is nothing left on them standard and the cases are modified as well.
a friend of ours built is own rail and engine everything for the engine was imported from the USA. The case had to be machined to take the valves and other stuff as well.
The even use a type of launch control as well for the revs.

lots of fun

I reckon they are dead cool. When you think about it they are faster over the quarter then the Falcon phase 3 GTs or new model monaro etc And you have to remember they are only kids driving them.

That photos dodgy. With so much weight in front of the rear axle there is no way one of those would wheelie.

Other then that..... the spectator value is low, but they are a good filler event (pie and toilet break) at the drags.

Doug Sweetman - January 31st, 2005 at 03:27 PM

LOL - you are so right :)

helbus - January 31st, 2005 at 04:06 PM

I picked up a lawn mover barrel and piston from a guy out Dandenong way once and he had a junior dragster motor there. He said they could get 27.5hp out of a 5hp side valve motor.

Doug Sweetman - January 31st, 2005 at 06:49 PM

FARK - to put that in perspective its like 300hp out of a 1500sp (which were about 50 odd stock right ?)

yoikes.

snore, snore, snore....oh sorry, did I drift off there. Jnr dragster is a lot like amateur musical theatre, far more interesting for those involved than for the audience. Good time to get a drink or fill in a really tedious tax form. :o

CoopGirl - February 1st, 2005 at 02:07 PM

.............. or have a tooth pulled. lol

Craig Paton - March 8th, 2005 at 08:02 PM

Just stick a warmed over VW in them!!
About 100-115 hp is all they would need to liven them up!!;)
