WPVW ben's green supercharged drag beetle 9.90 @ 134 mph
2442supercharged - June 21st, 2011 at 09:14 PM

In 2009 just 6 weeks before warwick vw drags team WPVW decided to build me a race car so we pulled a 1966 beetle from the yard and started. The beetle started out as just put a engine and gearbox into it and go race. Untill Wayne Penrose found a old supercharger and decided to put that on. Here are some pics from the start

After we found the supercharger we decided to chop the front off to make it a little lighter and also add spindle mount wheels.

with the size of the rear slicks we have to make the rear areo guards stand off the body cause we had to do this we decided to dzues fasten the rear guards on. Pics of the battery tray and fuel tank mounted.

Thanks for sharing the build Ben....6 weeks before Warwick.....crikey, sometimes we make it tough for ourselves. :tu::tu:

2442supercharged - June 22nd, 2011 at 09:25 PM

the engine that went in was a type 1 92x84 with old superflow heads 42x40 valves C45 cam, H beam rods ,pauter 1.4:1 ratio rockers, 10.8:1 comp.Gearbox was a 1800 kombi box with berg housing welded diff kombi cv joints.

2442supercharged - June 22nd, 2011 at 09:30 PM

yeah a lot of late nights to get it done we also had to do customer work so we could afford to finish it

2442supercharged - June 22nd, 2011 at 09:33 PM

finally together the day before we leave for warwick so we had no time to tune the car.

2442supercharged - June 22nd, 2011 at 10:01 PM

well warwick 2009 did not turn out so good. we finished the car the day before we had to leave so we had no time to dyno it. When i was doing a burnout the flywheel come off the crank and destroyed the engine

2442supercharged - June 22nd, 2011 at 10:14 PM

after the engine blow i had to start from scratch with the engine. so after saving enough money and warwick 2010 coming up i brought some new parts. Cb bubble top alloy case bug pack flanged 88mm crank pauter x-beam conrods tcs30 engle cam. AA 94mm forged pistons.

Hi Ben,

It's amazing how one can have a pan to build a car and then when you start, the plan totally changes  :lol::lol:

Love the story, photos and your car :tu::tu::tu::tu:

Thanks, Kevin

i cc the head to work out compression ratio and what length barrels i need. I got the case machined to fit the flanged crank flywheel seal.

2442supercharged - June 23rd, 2011 at 09:34 PM

bottom end is together now it ready for heads.Pushrods made to length and rockers put on.

car is now ready for dyno. I was alittle dissapointed about the dyno figure. I expected about 20psi from the supercharger but it would only make 5psi. But it still made 195 hp at wheels at 7000rpm. Here are two vids of first engine start and dyno

pics fo warwick 2010

2442supercharged - June 23rd, 2011 at 10:16 PM

well warwick was not so good for in 2010. After getting new engine ready i done a nice burnout staged the car got it off the line it had a bit of axle tramp changed to second and the car turned right into the wall. The impact bent front beam both right hand wheels. After looking at the car back at the workshop we found that the cv joints could not handle it and broke the cage which caused me to turn right.

2442supercharged - June 30th, 2011 at 10:17 PM

after getting the car back to the workshop to insepect damage we found the front beam badley bent RH stub axle bent RHR trailing arm bent front frame head bent two broken RH cv joints. I have updated cv joints to 930 porsche fitted new alloy beam. I also fitted MSD 6al-2 programable. I will post more photos later of the new parts i fitted and the ones i am going to fit for warwick this year.
