Volkswagen at Auto China 2009
phaeton - May 23rd, 2009 at 11:42 AM

Not any all new VWs were released of significance to us; mainly new engines 1.4 TSI and 1.8 TSI were released for VWs two Joint Ventures in their main sellers and the Golf 6 was launched.

FAW-VW which builds the Jetta as the Sagitar, the Passat as the Magotan and a fully redeveloped Mk4 as the New Bora just had the above mentioned engine updates with no major visual changes.

Shanghai-VW released a facelifted Passat Lingyu which to put it simple is a last generation Passat (B5) [with 100mm LWB] with the 2.0L, 1.8T and 2.8 V6 engines (sounds familiar doesn't).

The Polo Sporty powered by 1.6L engine seen in the Polo sedan sold here in early 2003 was also released with Sporty visual cues such as Alloys and Darkened headlights and tail lights.

Lavida the first fully ground up Chinese design which is based on the same platform as the New Bora had two new versions on show; one with the BlueMotion treatment; a 1.4 TSI and 7 speed DSG giving an average fuel consumption of 5.8L per 100k's and another with same powertrain but with more sporty influence: alloy wheels, leather seats and rear spoiler.

they look Very nice....

they say it won't be long before chinese made cars will be sold in Australia and the rest of the world...

Most taxis in major Chinese cities are all chinese made VW passats etc..
Early models...

i'm wondering whether the chinese designed VWs pass any safety ADRs....

Chinese-made VWs have already been sold in Australia.

The Polo Classic (2002-04), the previous Polo with a boot, was made in China (the regular Polo came from Spain). It was the first Chinese-made car to go on sale in Australia. So yes they do.
