Engine Upgrade Question
type3kid - July 21st, 2009 at 11:06 AM

hey all,

heard a whisper that a mk 3 golf 1.8 L will fit easily into a Mk 1 golf.

anyone know if this is true? especially te easy part.

also, would that mean i could also hook the Mk 3 air con up/

cheers

I've seen a VR6 donk in a Mk1 Cabrio so yeah maybe :)

Think there was one at this year's Nationals

depends on what you mean by easy part

type3kid - July 22nd, 2009 at 09:46 AM

asked the watercooled guys.

apparently the donk drops in with the standard mounts, but if you use the EFI motor, you need to re-do the loom and fuse box.

also mention of new tank and fuel lines.

so my next question is does anyone know where to get a front cut of a Mk 3?

Everything is easy, it just takes time.

Talk to Matt at Camden GTI. He can supply all parts, and even do the work for you: 0423 051737

http://www.camdengti.com.au/

There were more Mk3 Golfs sold here as 2.0-litre GL models, rather than 1.8-litre CLs. The 2.0-litre made 85 kW, same as the Mk2 GTI. Dunno if they bolt into a MK1, but they probably do.

thanks for that.

i was going to call him but was under the impression he only supplied parts. hearing he does the work too is good news.

i'd prefer to go 2L but the only thing that concerns me is the brake upgrade and legal/engineering

SAME AS sEAT cORDOBA
THEY HAVE A single point injection system but just get the loom
I have a nice 156,000 kms bottom
and gasket and new bolts but the headf is cracked in the wrong place...needs repl. $300 short mtr
aircon compr $110
loads of parts to fit the Mk1 and what a mtr 1.8 !!!!!!! add a 5 speed box $280 from me

yep, all fits together like lego lol, got a 2L from 97 seat (2E, same as mk3) in the old beigemobile.
dont need to change fuel lines, though im running later model intank lift pump, surge tank and ext pump - ran like soot with just the lift pump when low on fuel lol.
and dont know what the laws are like up there but shouldnt need brake upgrade, though if youre planning on further modding go some mk2 gti fronts or somethin,
and guessin should be easy to get engineered as displacement increase isnt that much..?..
good luck with it.
